  1. Sold! Sold: 1982 Mooney M20J 201 N1157Z This 201 was based in Texas and hangared for most of its life. I have owned this airplane for 7 years and moved it with me from Texas to New York in 2016, where I had it tied down outside at HPN for a year before I moved it back into a hangar. It is currently based in a hangar at 44N Sky Acres, LaGrangeville, NY. 57Z has been a great traveling airplane for me and my small family. During my ownership I have flown this airplane between Dallas and Santa Monica, and Dallas and New York many times. My mission has changed now, our trips not quite as epic, so it is time to find another owner for 57Z. 2. N95 enabled oxygen masks mandatory! Appreciate your forwarding to 201er. -Glen
  3. Hi NJMP - I just sent my info to 201er and hope to get on board. Are you guys planning any post-pandemic fly outs?
  4. Hi Keatre - Garmin has updated their docs. You can now wire the 430W to display traffic and weather with dual G5’s. And it works great!
  5. I started a thread on this topic here. We’re waiting for Garmin to update their paperwork....
  6. I am wondering how much a field approval would cost? Keep in mind that it’s just the traffic piece on the 430 we’re talking about. Weather shows up, and all of the navigation integration works (really well). If Garmin issues updates to their paperwork in Q1, the wait isn’t that bad.
  7. Toto - yes. You cannot also display traffic on the 430W because the G5 currently needs both ARINC 429 ports on the 430W. Note: The latest software update on the 430W enables a G5 protocol on only one 429 port, freeing up the other port for the Traffic interface from the GTX345. However, the STC has not yet been approved to support this configuration. UPDATE: The GFC500 has built-in roll steer, so you might not need both ports. Check the installation guide or with your shop.
  8. ForeFlight is pretty good too!
  9. Here’s the response I received from Garmin: “Unfortunately this is correct as the current G5 to GNS 430W interface requires both of the 429 ports to be used. We do have a software update for the GNS units that will allow one port setting however this has not been STC approved as of yet and hopefully will be approved in early 2019 timeframe barring any problems with the cert and scheduling.”
  10. Which they did. And we wait.....
  11. Then are we waiting for Garmin to issue a new SB rather than an update to the STC? Or are you saying SB 1762 Rev A already covers this and nothing more should be forthcoming from Garmin. From SB 1762 Rev A: "Notification of revision to Garmin's STC(s) will be provided under a separate service bulletin."
  12. Oh, we have problems.... I don't like that "solution" either! Somebody here PMed the name and email address of a Garmin rep shortly after I posted. I sent him an email but haven't heard back yet.
  13. Well, that is interesting. The current STC does require both of the arinc 429 inputs on the 430W for the G5. The current STC does not recognize the software update on the 430W, so it doesn’t leave a port for the GTX 345. And this SB clearly states that it does not provide airworthiness approval for certified aircraft. Is your shop going for a field approval?
  14. Thanks, I just asked and they are aware. The shop referred me to the "Certification Authorization" section of SB 1762 Rev A, which says, "TSO Authorization does not provide installation airworthiness approval. Separate installation airworthiness approval is required for type certified aircraft. Notification of of revision to Garmin's STC(s) will be provided under a separate service bulletin." My shop will wire it correctly once the STC is updated.
  15. Yes, I do have that covered. I'm really looking for the full integration as promised by Garmin.
  16. Yes, I have the correct software upgrade. I'm just waiting for Garmin to update the G5 STC so it's legal to display the data.
  17. Thanks! I have ForeFlight on my iPad, so I have the external screen covered. I really just want this panel mount stuff to integrate the way it is supposed to.
  18. Stanton R - That's it, thank you! So a change to the G5 STC is what anyone with this configuration is waiting for. I wonder how long wait might be for that revision....
  19. Hi MooneySpace! I recently had dual Garmin G5s installed in my J along with a Garmin GTX-345 Transponder/ADS-B, w/o built-in GPS. I had an existing GNS-430W which will remain in the panel for now. I also have an existing STEC-30 AP with Alt Hold, which now uses the G5s for roll steer, and therein lies the problem. My installer tells me that the Garmin STCs (I'm not sure which one(s), but I think it's for the G5) do not yet support the combination of G5-430W providing roll steer to the AP along with Traffic displayed to the 430W from the 345. I know this equipment can be wired to provide roll steer and traffic streamed to the 430W from the 345 - it was wired that way before the installer found out Garmin's paperwork didn't support it. So, the limitation appears to be with Garmin's paperwork. My installer has talked to Garmin and they tell him they will be issuing revised paperwork to support this configuration, but they haven't said when. Is anyone familiar with this issue? Any insight or knowledge into Garmin's timing on revising their paperwork is appreciated. Adding an image of my new panel....
  20. Hi @Frank Mooney - My M20J came with Precise Flight Speed Brakes. I have been very happy with them, finding them most useful in mountainous terrain during a hot summer afternoon when the thermals can be brutal on the Mooney. They were installed so long ago the cost is probably not useful to you, but I will look through my paperwork to see if the number of hours for the installation is listed. My Speed Brakes recently developed a problem staying deployed. I'm in for annual now, so I can follow up here with a PIREP after they are repaired.
  21. That really catches your eye!
  22. Just want to say thanks @bradpfor posting your work! I started helping my avionics guy with a dual G5 installation in my J this past weekend and was able to answer several questions quickly thanks to your post. I also leveraged the Mooney Pilot's Facebook group where I posted some pictures. I am really looking forward to flying behind the G5's toward the end of July.
  23. I checked these out at the AOPA fly-in at GON last weekend. While the ES is ADS-B OUT only (no WAAS GPS, so you need a WAAS enabled navigator), the ESi does come with ADS-B IN in the form of a Stratus that is plug-in only - no battery. What's nice about that is that you can mount the Stratus behind the panel or anywhere else where it is hidden. This version of the Stratus is tethered to the ESi transponder, so it powers up and down with that unit. If you don't have a panel mount navigator to display ADS-B and you use an iPad with Foreflight, and you were planning to purchase an ADS-B OUT only transponder, this seems to be a nice solution for around $3K list price.
  24. Better late than never with this post :).... I ended up going to AirMods for my annual in May and could not be happier with the result. Shane was awesome to work with and the shop did an excellent job overall. They didn't waste my money. They tackled only the airworthy items and they made notes and suggestions on other things. I was shocked, stunned and amazed to find out that rigging was included in their price. I ended up having them do the gear donuts as they recommended, and boy am I glad I did - it feels like a new plane on the ground. So, I highly recommend AirMods. You won't be disappointed. Best to all Glen
  25. Thanks again for all the great info! Glad (relieved) to find there is no shortage of good shops in the area. I talked to a few shops and really liked what Shane at Airmods had say. I am on their schedule in May. I think my plane is in excellent airworthiness condition, I hope the factory service center thinks so too!
