I’ll take a look and take some pics of the tabs. As far as age I’m not sure. I bought it with my J in 2013. It was about half full at the time Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Depending on the distance (and the wine) I’ll consider it. Given your username How far could you be? I’m in Carroll, IA Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I know this is a long shot but I have about 16 gallons of TKS fluid in a 55 gallon barrel along with a metal stand for tipping it to its side and moving. My new plane does not have TKS and no one locally has any need for it. As you can see from the pic, the yellow stand tips over and there is a spout for filling a container. It sits on four wheels when tipped so it's easy to move as well. Unfortunately due to it's size it really can't be shipped. I'm located in western Iowa and looking for $100. I know it's worth more but I'm trying to make it attractive because of the cost to pick it up. Let me know if interested.

If I recall, they were mounted with a single bolt that you can see in the pic. Not sure of the thread size. As far as mounting them in your C, I really don't know. Perhaps there is someone here on MS that can answer that for sure.

Price lowered to $100 with free UPS shipping.

For Sale: Original Mooney M20J sun visors. These were removed from my previous 1982 J model. Good condition and an easy replacement for someone with cracked or broken visors. $100 shipped UPS ground CONUS.

I have a Aerospace Logic FL202D graphic fuel gauge that I purchased used from a local pilot based at my home airport. I planned to install it in my J along with CiES digital fuel senders but sold the plane beforehand. I purchased an Ovation that already has a EDM900 primary so I no longer need it. This is the digital version to be used with digital senders only. It was installed in a Bonanza and used for about a year before being removed as part of an avionics upgrade. It was never installed my my plane but works perfectly according to the previous owner who I know very well. $500 shipped UPS ground, CONUS.

That’s what my mx said. Instead of 280hp, I probably have about 284. Lol! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So the plot thickens...as it turns out a small crack was discovered in one of the cylinders and is being sent back to Zephyr for them to look at. While my mx was talking to them about the crack he mentioned the one P10 oversized cylinder they did. The response was "we would never do that". As it turns out they oversized all six cylinders and Sarasota incorrectly logged it as only one. I suppose that's a good thing as they are all balanced and if the cracked one is replaced I can only assume it will be replaced with a P10 as well. In case anyone is wondering why I started this thread, I sold my J and purchased a 98 R. All this was discovered during the PPI. Jason from JED-Aire in Benson, MN (a Mooney expert) is going to finish the annual, get a cylinder replaced and hopefully within two weeks I'll have my new bird home. I turn 48 tomorrow and owning an Ovation has been a dream up to this point. Possibly the last airplane I ever buy. Thanks everyone for your help. Attached are a few pics.

Thanks for all the insight and also the math, Skip. This cylinder now has a slightly larger piston and rings than the other five so there shouldn’t be any problem operationally. There must have been some scoring on the wall and repairing this must have been the least expensive way to go. All six cylinders went off to Zephyr for repair and only one came back this way. Thanks Clarence. Seems odd to me but I’m not a MX. The plane in question had this done at a MSC and Zephyr did the work. It must be allowed but I question if it’s the right thing to do. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Does anyone know if one cylinder on an IO550 is bored .010 inch over cause an imbalance or result in any premature engine wear? Also, is this common practice? Just never heard of this being done. Thanks

I found a pitot tube on eBay so should be good. Thanks everyone.
-
Well it turns out it's not the switch. The pitot tube was removed and bench tested. It has a short in the heating element. 24V tubes are plentiful but the 12V model not so much. I'm on the hunt for a good used PH502-12 or AN5812-12

The accident in Iowa happened about 40 miles from where I live. The story I'm hearing is that the student pilot was the 15 years old girl with very few hours (4-5) trying to land the Dakota, N91770. Very sad but also preventable. While we initially all believed the pilot suffered an in-flight heart attack, the real cause has pilots in my hometown talking about CO detectors. It sure reaffirms my decision to install a panel mounted Aero 551 at my last annual. @alextstone's story shows how fast something bad can happen so it's a good thing he had a detector and was alerted. @DanM20C, good work keeping this topic in our conversations. You're story is truly remarkable and I have no doubt your efforts to get CO detectors in our airplanes have saved lives.

That’s a really good idea. I was also thinking of powering the pitot with a 12v battery with a 15A fuse in there to see if the fuse blows. Thanks Clarence, I’ll try your idea first Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That’s interesting. $3,200 seemed outrageous. Thanks for sharing that Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'm going to run out to the hanger tonight and see what I have in there. Looks like an E-T-A switch and I'm hoping either the nav light or landing light switch is the same type so I can change them out and confirm this is the issue.
-
Thanks for the responses. I looked the best I could for wire chafing and didn't see any. Sounds like I really need to rule out the switch before buying a pitot as it seems more and more likely this is the real issue. Just need to figure out an easy way to test it.
-
When I turned it on to test it, it switched off after about 3-4 seconds. What's strange is I removed the four screws that hold the pitot in place, disconnected it and tested it for voltage and continuity. While I know just enough about electrical issues to be dangerous, they both tested normal. After I reconnected it, it worked normally and I thought it was a connection issue but the next time I flew, I turned it on and it switched off in about 3-4 seconds. My mechanic, who hasn't had a chance to look at it yet, told me to start looking for a used pitot but now you have me thinking it might be the switch.
-
The pitot heat is tripping the circuit breaker that's built into the switch and I'm told there's something going on internal to the mast or heating element. I'm also told a new pitot tube runs $3,200 so I'm looking for a good used one. If anyone has one laying around or can point me in the right direction please let me know. '82 M20J. Thanks, Kevin

+1 I bought my J through Tim. He's a good, honest guy who won't steer you wrong.

Will the engine run on water? Almost found out!

Thanks for sharing. I plan to be even more vigilant after seeing this. -

Unbelievable. Are you absolutely sure it came from fueling the plane? Any chance your seals are leaking and water got in before you refueled? In any case, nice job catching it! -
Better late than never. A little sloppy; it will be much easier next time around. Thanks for posting your instructions! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
