  1. Newly minted Instrument ticket in hand! Hard work... Very happy! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Agreed Jose....it is an unfortunate fact of life that airplanes are irrationally singled out in this respect.... and not just in Europe Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Sorry Ben, I forgot your request for me to upload my noise cert.....here it is: https://www.dropbox.com/s/i7puszcfcq0lvky/Swiss%20Noise%20Cert.pdf AQ Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  4. Selamat datang terbang! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Private passed....instrument tomorrow....I have had a 61.75 certificate since 1996...I should have converted to standalone before all this TSA stuff came in! And although it is possible to add Instrument to a 61.75, it seemed better sense to have it all standalone.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Ok will do... I am in Farnborough at Flight safety today doing my FAA written exams (Private) and tomorrow (Instrument) but will dig it out when I get home Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. That should be Mike Busch! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Yes I have the maintenance manual and illustrated parts catalog on my iPad...very useful...what do you think of Mole Busch's managed maintenance idea? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. My plane has a Swiss noise certificate from when it was imported to Europe new and put on the HB register....I assume it is still valid now it is on the N register...and I assume I can use it in say Germany...but I'm yet to test it! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I bought my Mooney in France and now have it in Aberdeen...being a first time aircraft owner it is a steep learning curve to find out how and where to get things done! I have established contact with an A&P/IA based in S England and may have a location for doing the annual in East Lothian....I also have a place in Ste Maxime so I will be traveling through France a lot.....if love to hear from established Mooney owners any preferences for annuals, ad hoc maintenance issues, engine issues, avionics etc! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. From my reading I am good for BRNAV (RNP5) do enroute is ok...but I would need an LOA from the FAA to be PRNAV....what do you to fly RNAV approaches?....yes I trawled through PPLIR but still not clear to me...a direct question to Vasa is probably a good idea Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Yes Germany seems to be the epicenter of Mooneyville in Europe...followed by France (where I bought mine)....not that common in the Uk for some reason... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Here in Aberdeen 15G20 at 70-90 degrees across the runway is the norm at this time of the year....and absolutely no problem for the Mooney Anthony Q
  14. The relevant AC is here: http://www.faa.gov/documentLibrary/media/Advisory_Circular/AC%2090-96A%20CHG%201.pdf Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  15. In order to use a GPS unit for IFR navigation in the US the unit needs to be TSO 129 or 146 and installed in accordance with AC 20-130A amongst other things....such as alternate means to navigating in the event of loss of RAIM and/or WAAS....however I believe there is an agreement between EASA and the FAA that requires additional approvals in order for an N reg aircraft to use GPS for IFR navigation in Europe.....I have a. GNS430W (with software version 5.03) and I am about a month away from my checkride.....I would rather not be ambushed by the examiner! Does anyone have the facts? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  16. I asked mooney58 if could setup this as a separate group for those of us who fly our Mooneys in Europe. To ,e this site has been invaluable as a source of information and willing assistance. Obviously a Mooney flies and behaves the same way whether it is in its homeland or transplanted to foreign climes and so most of this site is very relevant for us European owners....however there are a few European specific issues that would probably be better separated out from the mainstream....hence my request for this group! Anyway I will start by re-posting from my post in the "Introduce yourself" thread: Hi all....my name is Anthony Quick... N60GZ, a 1987 M20J 205 is the first airplane I have owned although I have been a private pilot for over 20 years...I am an Australian but live and work in Aberdeen Scotland - which is the self proclaimed "oil capital of Europe"...I actually learned to fly in Singapore because that is where I was living when I finally decided to stop dreaming and just do it!...along the way I have acquired pilot's licenses in Singapore, Australia, Malaysia, Qatar, UAE, UK (JAA/EASA) as well as an FAA certificte (61.75) issued in 1996.... Over the years I have flown in FL, CA, AZ, NV & TX in the US as well as the UK, Norway & France .... I am now in training for my FAA Instument Rating here in Scotland (after going through the TSA approval process and flying to Sweden to get finger-printed!)....I plan to use a UK based DPE for the checkride at Le Touquet (France) sometime in March or April....oh and the written has to be done at Farnborough (England)....I have always loved Mooneys....ever since I saw them on the ramp at the Aero Club of Western Australia...until recently my relatively mobile lifestyle has always meant aircraft ownership was no practical....but once again I decided to stop dreaming and just do it! 17. By the way Brian, your idea of a paid vacation is not such a silly idea!! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  18. The main cost savings will be in doing the work myself with my A&P/IA.....but there is also a major uplift over US prices to buy it here (or have it shipped) here due to import tax (20% VAT) plus shipping.....via the avionics shop I'm looking at around $4800 for the unit (about $1500 more than the US) plus $6400 for installation (around $3-4000 more than the US)....if I ever go for a major panel upgrade I'd be better off flying it to the US! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  19. Thanks Brian.... I am now talking to my IA about doing it at annual time....with assistance from me....of course that means sourcing the unit myself.... I may try and have it delivered to a colleague in Houston for hand carrying back....that way I may save myself about $5,000!! I guess I would need to speak to EI about configuration and ensure they give the system setup as password to my IA... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. The shop said they just installed on one on a PA46 and they think 67.5 hours is required :-( Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  21. How about the 301.... Pretty cool...
  22. Btw Scott, which Primary and Secondary indications did you choose?
  23. My quote is from one of the only 3 or 4 FAA Part 145 Repair stations in the UK....can it be installed by a normal A&P (with my assistance) and signed off by an IA? I had thought it required a RS with avionics certificates to do the work? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. I agree it does look awesome.....and thanks for the link....the only thing is that here in the UK I have one quote so far for supply and install at $4,800 for the unit plus $6,400 for the install....(includes the UK 20% Value Added Tax).....hence my question about hours to install....the quote would indicate 50 to 60 hours
  25. When I got my J I practised stalls with an instructor...power off full stalls often led to a wing drop...with ball centred to the best of my ability ;-) but very easily recovered and absolutely nothing to fear..... the prospect of doing power on stalls was daunting.....however I found none or little tendency to drop a wing with power on....a bit counter intuitive I suppose...
