N33GG Posted May 20, 2012 Report Posted May 20, 2012 OK, it's been some time since this product hit the market, and I am still trying to decide on whether or not to add a 650 to my panel. I am always a bit hesitant to be the first on the block with any new product. Those of you that have made the plunge, how do you like the units after using them for a while? Any issues with using the touch screen in turbulence? Any other issues, likes, or dislikes? Updated Pireps please. Thanks! Quote
FAST FLIGHT OPTIONS LLC Posted May 20, 2012 Report Posted May 20, 2012 No issues. 10x easier to use then my 430w. Very intuitive. Worth the $. No negatives other then early users such as myself had to return the units to Garmin for the "Mod 1 upgrade". No issues in turbulence. You can change frequencies with the knobs if it's bumpy. Great graphics. touch screen is cool Quote
PTK Posted May 20, 2012 Report Posted May 20, 2012 I have the GTN750 along with the remote audio panel and transponder. The 650 has a very similar touch screen interface with slightly modified software to facilitate use with the smaller screen. Their functions and operation are the same. You cannot utilize the 650 for remote audio panel control. Excellent in every way! You may consider visiting a avionics shop that has one on display and look at it. Quote
Ellioth Posted May 20, 2012 Report Posted May 20, 2012 We installed a GTN650 in our '78 201 shortly after they entered the market last year-- and as the cliche goes, "we've never looked back." The 650 displaced one of two KX170Bs. To me, the most important improvement over the GNS430 is the screen resolution although the "human interface" is a welcome change from the older GPS units. Having been a 430 user since 2000 and thinking the world of that uint, I would without hesitation install another GTN650 in my airplane. Quote
Bennett Posted May 20, 2012 Report Posted May 20, 2012 i echo allsmiles comments about the GTN 750, I also have one installed with the remote transponder and audio panel i elected to use a 430W under the GTN 750, but in retrospect I wish I had the GTN 650 installed in its place, because of the simple interface and ease of use. The GTN series have been out for almost a year now, and I believe the bugs (there were a few, as in the case of any new avionics of that capability) have been worked out, and I am very pleased with my GTN 750. rocketman Posted May 20, 2012 Report Posted May 20, 2012 I have a GTN 750 in my Rocket and its ease of use, Touch Screen capabilities, high screen resolution, and more importantly the newest technology of the Garmin series insures its continued support, availability, and safety for at least the next 9 years. The 430 and 530 series is no longer manufactured and will be outdated in the coming years. Both will do what you require, but the new generation will be better supported by the manufactures and aviation community in the future. Quote
