Z W Posted September 4 Author Report Posted September 4 @WilliamR Before you go adjusting too much, add some grease to your door pins. Mine were bone dry. The new seal made it concerningly hard to close /open the door until I added the grease.
Marc_B Posted September 4 Report Posted September 4 Instead of greasing the pins I'd use Door Ease. I think it's cleaner/easier (I think it's a wax base), it's called for in the Mooney Service Manual and you apply it like a crayon. Plus you can find it locally at ACE or Walmart. To lubricate the door seal after install and annually, I use 3M Silicone Paste. It comes in a jar with a lid with a brush that makes it easy to apply in a light layer, let it "soak" overnight and lightly wipe the seal and door jam. FROM MSM: 1
WilliamR Posted September 4 Report Posted September 4 Thanks! As lubing the pins is the easiest option. I'll try that first. Hoping to break from work one night in the next week and mess with this. I'm confident my pins are not lubricated since I've had the plane 20 years and never lubed the pins. Always latched easily. Stick ordered. Already have the silicon grease, but a good reminder I need to apply it. William
WilliamR Posted September 10 Report Posted September 10 Sorry for the late follow up due to work obligations. I was able to sneak out one night and lube the pins. Works perfectly now. I've probably read the maintenance manual 50 times including when I wrenched on them at my family's maintenance shop and never noticed lube needed or called out for the pins. Now the door latches firmly and snuggly but not at all difficult. @Z W and @Marc_B, thanks. Next time you're at KPDK (Atlanta), reach out. I owe you at least a beer or your choice of non-alcoholic beverage. Thanks William 2
