I was going to swap out my EDM 700 for an EDM 830 and take advantage of the "discount" with the exchange that JPI is currently offering.  What I wasn't aware of is that my EDM 700 had  been converted to run GEM probes and that the 830 was not compatible with the GEM equipment.  In the end I ended up paying $300 more than if I were to have ordered the complete kit all at once from JPI.

So now I have an EDM 700 that was checked out at the factory (anticipated using it as a "core") that has been programmed to run on GEM sensors (EGT/CHT) which I have, complete with the harnesses that allow rigging of OAT/OIL/etc. etc.  I was going to sell it to a buddy of mine who owns a Cherokee 6 but his mechanic is afraid to install it for unknown reasons.  Is there a secondary market for this?

Perhaps there was a communication issue with the mechanic, and he thinks your buddy want to install your used equipment as a primary instrument (I don't know what Piper had OEM).  Installing as a secondary does not require an STC (not available for the EDM700 anyway) and my mechanic felt it was a minor alteration with no field approval required.

I've seen them often on e-bay. Typical prices are $500 or more for a 6 cyl setup. This assumes you have all of the probes, wiring harnesses, manual etc. You can check selling prices after doing a search on e-bay's completed listings. Barnstormers or Beechtalk (peddlers) are two other sites which will enable you to market. I'd encourage you to indicate that it has the GEM probes modified for the JPM 700 as that is an unusual setup in the resale market IMHO. I have a GEM 602 indicator that I will be selling as I upgraded to the 610 in case  you find someone that wants a complete GEM system.
