I will need to fly IFR between the US and Canada. Because Bendix-King has split the North America GPS database for the KLN-89B into separate databases for the lower 48 states and Canada/Alaska, I believe I will have to swap databases during border-crossing flights. Databases can be uploaded to the KLN-89B from a laptop, but that is not practical in flight. I think I will need a second database card pre-loaded with the Canadian database so that I can turn off the GPS, change cards, then reboot the GPS in flight. Unfortunately, Bendix/King no longer sells the physical cards for the KLN-89B database. Does anyone know of a source for these? I suppose I could purchase a used KLN-89B just to get the card...

A good contact at BK is Chuck Demaree he is at wingman services.  Techsupport@bendixking.com

definitely get some advice before trying to swap databases in mid flight.  I have accidently erased the database without being able to upload the new one.  Without the database, the GPS doesn't give guidance at all.

There must be a procedure for this.  You aren't the first person to have this challenge.

Let me know if you need contact info for Chuck D.

Thanks for the quick replies. I did check the Bendix-King download website first because I always updated via internet download in the past. Although the KLN-89B database was available on the cards in the past, the website now states they are no longer available via the cards. I am trying to talk with a real person at Bendix King who may be able to sell one. I am hoping that by having the two databases on separate cards, I will not have the problem with database erasure and no guidance.

Chuck, if you're looking just for a physical card, and will format/reload it to suit your needs, I can send you the one I just removed from my Ovation's KLN-89B.  PM me if interested.
