dtoelke Posted May 8, 2015 Report Posted May 8, 2015 Problem solved. For anyone having a similar issue in the future I hope this will be of some help. First off, like everyone mentioned earlier, there is a nice troubleshooting guide in the service manual. Use it. Secondly, don't bother dealing with International Avionics, as their support (at least on my '79 M20K) was downright awful. I would just call Mooney directly next time, as Paul their avionics guy was very willing to help. I called IAI to get a copy of the board layout since mine did not match the one in the service instruction. The repair tech (Kenneth) offered no technical help whatsoever and kept telling me I needed to send in my unit for overhaul, and that changing a resistor (as suggested by the service manual) would not solve my problem. After a couple of calls I finally was able to get him to send over a poorly-scanned copy of the layout and locate the R10 resistor. The entire time I was on the phone with Kenneth I was subtly berated for my 'lack of knowledge' and constantly reminded of his electrical credentials and long tenure with the company. After trying to get him to look up the service instruction (which he never even pulled up!) he chose to end the call because I was "wasting his time". I replaced the resistor with the corrected value and, whalla, the board now works perfectly! $1.50 for a pack of resistors vs. $600 for an overhaul. It was a good day. Quote
