Epiphyte Posted September 19, 2013 Report Posted September 19, 2013 I just got notice that my old prop is finally dead after a prop strike. I'm looking for a loaner prop to ferry my bird just 3 miles away to my mechanics shop. I'm hesitant to drop a bunch of money on a new or used McCauley just to find out that the crank and gear are beyond my cost to repair. Anybody able to help or know numbers that I can call? Quote
Ellioth Posted September 19, 2013 Report Posted September 19, 2013 I have a "spare" McCauley B3D36C424-E 3-blade prop, removed from a '78 201. It was slinging some oil so we replaced it with a Hartzell Top Prop. We discovered the backing plate to be cracked which further justified the new propeller. The prop is at the RFD airport. If it is conveinent for you, send a private email and we can proceed forward! Quote
Epiphyte Posted September 19, 2013 Author Report Posted September 19, 2013 That sounds great, but talking to my mechanic, he says it would be a big chore to reconfigure from 2 blade to 3. I'll double check though. Thanks Quote
KSMooniac Posted September 19, 2013 Report Posted September 19, 2013 The prop bolts on just the same... nothing to change except you would need to find another spinner back plate. Quote
Epiphyte Posted September 20, 2013 Author Report Posted September 20, 2013 How hard is it to find a back plate, and is this prop airworthy? Quote
Epiphyte Posted September 20, 2013 Author Report Posted September 20, 2013 Thanks. For all the help and the offer on a prop. I actually found an exact replacement. Wish me luck. Quote
