I just purchased a 79 M20K and on the transit back to KGTU ran into a few squawks. I am limited on panel space so need a KY 197 direct fit replacement. Has anyone replaced this slim radio with a more modern radio that doesn't require a ton of other mods? Looking at the Garmin GTR 200 but I am not sure other than size fit if this would be the right radio to limit my troubles. Any experience is helpful!

Three times in the last year ATC at my home field (KGSO) has mentioned that my frequencies are bleeding over on this radio (active and standby on this unit only). My other unit is a Garmin 430. It is very sporadic. I can have clearance in active and ground in standby. Clearance says it has static and ground is bleeding over....when I swap them and ground is now active I am told that is better and now clear. I hate to send it in for repair for such a seldom seen issue. Is this a local avionics shop repair? Has anyone sent to Bendix King for repair? How did that go cost and timewise? any other suggestions? Just completed my first year of ownership and am still catching up from the new owner fees (repairing stuff) thanks

Interesting problem. I have a Narco a Mark 12D and just a digital Narco COM. After flying through a rain both radios will not transmit. Just get a static noise. I can hear controllers OK though. Tried both mic inputs, both transmit buttons and two different head sets. I do not see any rain dripping under the panel. I siliconed the outside and still get the same result. So I land and after about an hour they both work again. Any comments? I am thinking it is my old audio panel since it is on top and maybe getting a couple of drops on it. By the time I take out all those mooney screws to take a look there either was no water of it has all gone. Have had two different avionics guys look at it and they just covered up the top of the avionics and that did not work

The Lucky Strike, my M20C, is equipped with a KX155 with glideslope and a King NDB, in addition to a VFR GPS com. It also has an old KN86 ADF that is inoperable. I plan on using it as an IFR trainer in the Spring (it will also be my IFR traveling machine). I'd like an IFR GPS, but between the box and the installation it just isn't in the cards right now. On the other hand I could replace the inoperable ADF with one that works without spending big money. Should I?
