Hello, Today I was fortunate to be able to fly my "new" 1975 M20F on my first cross country (in this plane). It was uneventful. Once I got to cruise the altitude of 7500 and trimmed the plane out I set the altitude hold on the S-Tec 30. That was real nice! First time I've ever had a autopilot. At some point, I looked back at the tail and saw that the elevator was in a slightly down position, as noted by the outboard part that is fore of the hinge point (that was up). Later when I cancelled the ALT Hold, there was no significant pitch up or down. Shouldn't the full pivoting tail section have the elevator perfectly lined up with the horizontal stabilizer? Seems in the configuration it was in, it would have a lot of drag. Thanks, Philip

In my 1979 M20J I don't notice much difference, if any, with my ram air on or off. I read an article somewhere where the pilot of the J model said he doesn't ever bother using ram air even in high altitudes because it didn't make a difference. Do you find this to be true? If it is making a difference in your plane, what is difference in speed mph?

Hey guys some of you know I just bought my M20F, since I have to pay for the gas myself I want to optimize the range and endurance of the plane while still getting a good cruise speed out of it. I was wondering what your guys recommended settings would be for that??

My 280 HP Eagle does 180 kts at gross weight. I expect it to do 190+ since the Ovation at 280HP and higher gross weight (3200 VS 3368 for Ovation) claims to do over 190 kts. I have a HTZ three bladed prop. Can anyone shed some light on this? My climb rates are as good as the numbers in POH for Ovation.
