  1. ahhh sorry. I just joined. Thanks
  2. Basically, M20C taking off from a somewhat bumpy grass strip. Before breaking the deck, the gear folds up on it. For all you experienced J-bar pilots, what happened here? Did the bar just "pop out" of its lock? I'd like to think that's "not supposed to happen."
  3. Thanks for the help guys. Huge confidence boost on this one
  4. Hi all, I'm looking at buying an E around Ft Lauderdale, FL. I need to get a Pre-buy done. I first called Premiere at FXE since they are an MSC, but they mostly in the new Mooneys. The maintenance director there was honest, which I appreciate, and gave the info on someone who has much more experience in the older Mooneys; "Phil" of PJ Aircraft Services in Avon Park, FL. Does anyone know of this guy and can give me a recommend/not recommend? Also, Avon Park is pretty far away from Ft Lauderdale anyway. Does anyone know somewhere closer I could get this pre-buy done? Thanks! Jared
  5. Nice new paint! I'm glad you posted before and after pics... Honestly I lov eyour before paint scheme and it might factor into a new paint job for me. One idea I have is is to just make the bottom half a darker gray...
  6. If possible, I would recommend travelling by RV through Alaska. I say that because I have done it. Don't get me wrong; being a bush pilot up there would be the ultimate, but if youre there to visit and have have a month or so... rvalaskatours.com. My uncle runs it and I worked for him for a summer when I was in college. Started in Northern BC, through Yukon territory and all over AK. We saw people from cruise ships and other touring means through the trip and it was obvious they didnt see half the wilderness, culture, or experience we got. They are very flexible and there is no harm contacting them to see if you could fly up there, rent an RV somewhere and participate in as little or as much of there month long tours as you want. Alaska is awesome!
  7. I'm not sure how to respond to that.
  8. I recommend the same as everyone else for a different reason. Sure, you should spend your initial "30 hours" or so on something easier, but.. Fly as many types of aircraft as you can. Not because youre trying to find something better. Because it gives you something to compare to. You learn a lot from comparison. you'll never know what feel is from basis aerodynamics and what is from your particular plane. Also, practice learning new aircraft teaches you so much. And enables you to get a better feel for the operation of your aircraft, also through comparison. Take what I say with a grain of salt. I have no time in Moooneys (although I am about to buy one) and have been drinking considerably. I have been editing this for grammar and spelling for quite sometime.
  9. Thank you for all the help! I have contacted a few of these tax people and am awaiting replies. As far as spending money on mods, I think the only thing I will do for now is add the electronic ignition that just got STC'd. It seems like kind of an "investment" for the fuel savings. I also figure it will aid in starting. Does anyone have a different opinion of this?
  10. Hi all, I just joined mooneyspace because I am looking at buying a Mooney and should probably acquaint myself with the Mooney world. I'm not asking for "what Mooney to get", I already know I want an E. My real question is about how to set up taxability of it (or lack thereof). It's complicated, and I couldn't find help in searching... I am from Louisiana, it's my perminent residence, I have LA drivers license and pay taxes there... I am in the Marine Corps and stationed in CA (where the airplane will eventually be), and the airplane I buy will probably not come from either of these locations. I'd like to own the aircraft through an LLC and maybe rent it out through a Flying club. How can I LEGALLY avoid sales tax and use tax? Where should the LLC and aircraft be registered? Anything else I can do? Or can anyone at least point me in the right direction? I know its a pretty specialized question, but it's pretty much the last problem I have yet to solve. Thanks! And I look forward to doing all kind of Mooney things when I figure out what that is. Jared
  11. Regardless of tempurature or time, what matters is most is the amount of oil in the aircraft while its running. That is why I add my oil in flight. If the oil pressure causes spewing, just climb higher, trim the aircraft up for Vy and be quick...
