  1. Does anyone else out there have an engine were the #1 CHTs are higher ~ 40 F than the rest. The engine is an IO360 A3B6D in a 1978 J model. I have done all that I know as well as some reputable mechanics. Change injectors check baffling etc. It generally runs about 375 while the others run ~ 335. My understanding is the #3 is suppose to be the hot cylinder on this engine hence the factory CHT gauge. Anyone find a cause or fix>
  2. Did all that as far as break in and ring posistion etc. I really tried to make the thing work. Find someone who is happy with the STC and the performance of the provider. I have been unable to find any one.
  3. For me the purchase of either the mini or ipad3 is more of an economic one. I generally fly into maybe 5 airports and they are all in Texas, La and OK.. Its just cheaper to print the paper out. I would really like to have one but I am already sick of updating the 430W and having to do another well id rather not. Untill I start flying all over the place its paper for me.
  4. Anascendancy. Good Luck You are going to need it. Talk to Lycoming about the differences between the IO-360 and the HIO-360..
  5. I looked back at my log books. The pistons were replaced @ 208 hrs. If I remenber correctly there was some concern about the piston length being different and maybe a possibility of rocking withing the bore. I never had a vibration issue. Oil consumption was the problem in my case. The engine now has over 1400 hrs on it and the comp are all over 76/80 using about 1qt/7hr. I saw about a three knot increase and do not remember any temperature problems. If and when I get a new engine it will probably be a lycoming reman just for the roller cam. If money is not an issue I would have someone like Lycon flow match the heads and check the balance etc. Wonder what something like that would cost?
  6. I bought the STC and regretted it from day one. Oil consumption was 1-2 qts/hr on new cylinders and that was after rehoning twice. Finally had to threaten a lawsuit and many phone calls. I finally got my money back. It was definitley not something I would do again.
  7. I bought the Skyranch filter cutter w/o the holder. Works great.
  8. Its the retreads you have to worry about on the clearance issue both for the mains and front. If I were going to run them I would check the clearance after installation. I run Condors and have about 6 years on them. No visible cracking tread is still good. Airplane is hangared.
  9. I called Spruce and asked for the SIRS (10-00948) hole center distance. Was told it was 1 1/16". The Airpath I have looks at least 1 3/4". At the very least another hole will need to be drilled through the centerpost. You could probably make some sort of adapter plate out of some 8 guage aluiminum. I also would like to see a picture of the recently installed,
  10. Has anyone installed one of these? I have a 1978 J model and was wondering.
  11. New to the forum but have owned the plane for 14 years. I know SB643B states this mag needs a 500 hr inspection. I have heard or read somewhere there is also a reccomeded 5 yr time interval. Anyone verify this??
