  1. This 64E has a dog house, and the mod came with left and right mods that attach to the cowl. The left provides air for heater, the right proves cooling to an accessory, in this case, the alternator. I have a "plane&power alternator, which has an air inlet for cooling. I will add that the mod has the option of placing shims between the starter gear and the bulkhead. This moves the spinner forward. In my case, if the shims would have been required, I may not have continued. This is because of the effort required to change the prop bolts.
  2. The cost of the ari mod was 1500.00. I had to locate my own 201 2 blade spinner, as I have a McCauley prop(214), and they are not available any more from mooney. Paid 400.00 for spinner and bulkhead assembly. Logged about 15 hours on the install, which included removal of a Lasar lower cowl closer. I had removed the prop and H1 governor for rebuild . The old H1 governor was not serviceable , so we installed a PCU5000.
  3. Thanks for all the great comments...although this paint is 20 years old, frequent polishing and hangar life is helping to prolong its life. I really wanted this mod, as I wanted to retain the avionics access panels. Prior to this cowl mod install, just completed STEC 40 to 50 upgrade, and GDL88 install. Time to fly!
  4. Just wanted to provide an update on the installation of the ARI cowl mod on a 64 super 21. Still have some painting to do, but that will come later. Nice to have this classic bird back in the air!
  5. io360 A3B6 - facotry new, installed in 64 M20E in 1998. No issues so far, engine is very strong. Compression all north of 75, consistently over the years. Years - 15 years hours - 1550
  6. The yokes were done by aero comfort in San Antonio. Had the interior redone 4 years ago. Very happy with their work!
  7. This picture is a little dated, as I did replace the old scanner with an edm700, including ff,oiltemp, oil pressure . It's connected to the 430 for fuel planning. Planning to connect gdl88 to the 430...
  8. Just over a month ago, I ask for advice regarding my STEC 40 single axis auto pilot with GPSS ( talks to a gns430w). 49Y is now at avionics shop for upgrade to STEC 50 (altitude hold). decided to get GDL88 installed also. Hoping to have her back around Xmas. Thanks to all those who offered your advice! This classic ole bird should be yet again improved and ready for the future!
  9. I have the edm700 in my m20e. added oil temp, oil pressure, fuel flow. have it connected to garmin 430 for trip statistics. This is a nice feature! Really like the ability to down the data and analysis. Both units are great, I went with the JPI because I wanted 3 1/8 gauge, and JPI had a nice rebate at the time!
  10. For one one of your cylinders, I would assume that you used a spark plug sensor? If so that cylinder will probably read cooler that a bayonet sensor. The primary CHT will use a bayonet, while the JPI will most likely use the spark plug sensor.
  11. I maintain N1949Y, sn=256. Her first flight was completed by Bill Wheat, on my birthday!
  12. I had Midwest Mooney reseal using their STC, based on a polyurethane process. Its 12 years old with no issues. So far so good.
  13. Wow, great response and advice! I like the approach of fixing this unit, and adding alt hold. Thanks for all your responses!! Rob
  14. Hello - I'm looking for recommendations, as I consider replacing/upgrading my STEC 40 autopilot. The current unit is 21 years old, and is starting to over correct, and is slow to adjust. I have been told the servo's may need rebuilding. This autopilot is a single axis, is slaved to a Garmin 430W, and I have GPSS. It has been a great unit. Here is my question: Should I upgrade this unit, as I understand it can be upgraded to have alt hold, or invest in a new install? And if new install, what unit would you recommend? Also, I'm in the midwest (St. Louis), any recommendations experience with avionic shops would be great.. Have included a pic of the panel for reference. Thanks in advance for your thoughts/ideas..
  15. My mechanic and I just rebuild my flap pump, and the adjustment is very senitive. We set the flaps to fully retract in 10 seconds, and it works very well. Also rebuilt the parking brake mechanism, as it had developed a slow leak. I cannot imagine rebuilding the parking brake mechanism without the avionic access panels....
