  1. Wow! Thanks everyone for all the great suggestions. I'll start researching all these routes. Thanks for encouraging the use of flight following too. Since my instrument rating, I got used to always talking to ATC. I've made it habit to fly with flight following when VFR if available (haven't been turned down yet). Especially since most of my flying down here has been in the LA basin congestion.
  2. We're moving from SoCal to Boise area soon -- therefore, I'll need to fly my M20C to its new home in Idaho. I have not flown in the northwest yet, and very unfamiliar with the area and terrain. Ideally, I'd like to plan routing that gives the safest options for emergencies given I'm in a single engine. I plan to make the trip in day/VFR. My initial thought was something like : L18 KFCH KRBL KLKV KEUL, however, this route flies directly through bunch of MOA's and overflies large open areas with little options for emergency airports. Any suggestions, tips, or comments would be much appreciated.
  3. Anyone have any tips on locating a new throttle cable for my '68 M20C? Its been progressively getting worse, and now its stiff as hell. Afraid I'm gunna break it off one of these days. Annual starts soon, so figured its good time to replace.

  5. @ELT - thanks for the tip on "cane tips" -- I might try that @flyboy0681 - I know, 3 gps's is bit of overkill, with 1x 430w, 1x 430, and 1x 496, I suppose I have no excuses for ever being off course. I received my instrument rating last year and plan to do more IFR flying with this new panel. no excuses for me now! @rob - thats the brittian accu-trak under the copilot yoke -- basically, poor mans autopilot. It works great taking GPS directions from the Aspen. Perhaps someday I might consider a "real" autopilot, but for now it seems to work just fine. Does make me wish I had ALT hold though. GPS's with the compass is a problem for sure. compass is basically useless IMO -- I'd consider removing it if I could legally. I kept the VSI mostly for asticics right now. I really didn't have anyting else to install on the pilot side, and I've done all my instrument work on the standard "6 pack". I figured it'd be nice way to transition to the Aspen while maintining the majority of the "6 pack".
  6. Finally getting around to uploading upgraded panel pics. How'd I do with the upgrades? Gallery: http://mooneyspace.com/index.cfm?action=gallery&userGallery=1383¤tAlbum=819 Aspen Pro Garmin 430W Garmin 430 Garmin 496 w/XM weather Garmin 340 audio Garmin 327 tx FS-450 fuel comp
  7. sorry, double posted. :-(
  8. Quote: AustinPynes What is a nonWAAS 430 worth? Having just bought my M20F I have a 430nonWAAS and will be upgrading it to WAAS (quote is 3000) Is it cheaper to sell the 430 and buy the 430W or do the upgrade?
  9. anyone have a used GI-106A they need to offload? I choked when I saw what they get for new one! Guess I should just start signing my paychecks over to Garmin. :-(
  10. Anyone have any 430's available? I'm in the middle of AV upgrade and facing installing a new SL-30 (for nav2); was hoping to locate a NON-WAAS 430 in the same price range instead?
  11. update - we replaced the seals in the pump and actuator and rebled the system. Fluid was very thick and sticky just as Clarence suggested. We flushed the system with fresh fluid and now the flaps extend nice and easy. However, even after bleeding the system completely for what felt like forever, it still takes 1 pump to pressurize the system before the flaps start extending. Does this mean air still in system or is this considered normal? 4-5 full pumps fully extends the flaps after the initial "pressurize" pump. Any suggestions?
