  1. Recent experience with MT propeller. Lost 14 kts at 2500 ft msl. Basically I get approximately 70% thrust at 100% power. It is however quieter possibly that's due to the lack of power. Mooney 231
  2. Fellow Go Fasters, I would like to invite you to participate in the fantastic sport of Air Racing. sportairrace.org I'm getting a little tired of having the only Mooney on the line. How this works we race in class. We start based on an estimated race speed and fly a course that may be 100-150 nm. Some of the events are held in conjunction with Air Shows Some are race only events. The camaraderie is great Generally 20 - 40 aircraft show for the event. There are some interesting aircraft. The last two races had participating a P51 mustang, T28x2. We even had the recent east west record holder. Races are held all over the country. Take a look at the site any questions let me know.
  3. 231 vs J I generally fly at 14.5 13.2 gph running 125 ROP 192 kts True. 111 Gallon fuel capacity, range is not a problem. My 231 has the LB Engine Intercooler and Pop off valve. Merlyn waste gate is next 3k My personal favorite thing to do is get up there with the winds. Ever seen 300kt ground speed. While shopping around I found the J and 231 price to be about the same. From a maintenance perspective I anticipate spending 4k annually for maintenance including annual. One small confession my pilot buddies now refer to me as a turbo snob J.
  4. I use O2 when above 8k for more than a couple of hours. I also regularly fly at 14-17 on a sky ox The tanks is a pain to refill due to the medical style coupler. My colleague has a small welding cylinder with a valve purchased off of ebay. It is cheaper to fill and he gets about the same utilization rate as I do. His cost about 300.00 mine about 800.00 us.
  5. My 231 has a 25 pound O2 can in the back, mounts just beyine the hat shelf. There is a cg adjustment for the additional weight.
  6. Well lets see, I have run a tank Dry both Mooneys on a regular basis Stretching the range. When the engine starts to sputter I switch then engage the fuel pump not a major problem.
  7. I have a Statesman with Accutrack as well as a 231 with a kx155 I have had the statesman for 4 years and replaced on servo at $64.00. I have had the 231 for 1 year the autopilot has been worked on by a qualified shop twice including a servo change and a tune up total cost over 5K. The Accutrack will hold course at altitude with a severe crosswind the KX 155 will come close. The 155 drops often usually in the worst conditions. The Brittain has never dropped. The folks at Brittain are great to work with, friendly professional and very helpful. I can recommend them highly. There’s a bit of a wait at the moment it seems the Cessna folks have recently discovered the advantages of a Brittan. I am looking at the altitude hold box for the statesman.
