  2. I like flightaware, but I use Advocate Tax and they highly encouraged me to opt my plane out of that system. If the wife can track you so can big brother. It would be just one more "tool" they have to use should they decide to audit your business use of the aircraft. I got a SPOT - www.findmespot.com. I give the password out to people that I want to see my flights. The IRS isn't on that list! The SPOT is not as cool as flightaware and you have to remember to turn it on, but it does the job if you don't forget. It also doubles as a personal locator beacon in case of an emergency.
  3. Quote: docket Thanks for putting this up on the net. Mapa's email system is just too cumbersome.
  4. The "bad rap" could and should be confronted head on by Mooney. I owned a C182 and there is just as much room in my Acclaim as there was in the C182, it's just "different". You sit in the C182 like a minivan - seat is higher and your knees bend more. My Mooney is more like a sedan. I can actually stretch out MORE in the Mooney and I'm more comfy on long trips in the Mooney that I was in the C182. And rear seats of the Mooney have the C182 beat hands down. I told Jennifer (at the air races in Reno) that they should make a big chart and show an overlay of the square footage of the Mooney, the Cessna 400, and other competitors. I studied them, flew them, and compared them closely. The bad rap is just that - a BAD rap and could be easily dispelled with some graphic illustrations. The differences are not nearly as extreme as is generally talked about. Hard to land? Sure, if you ignore the numbers. Pay attention to approach speed and you'll nail it every time. Easy.
  5. My Acclaim has all the G-1000 "bells and whistles" as well (no SVT yet, still trying to decide). For backup, I carry a Garmin 296, a Sporty's radio and an eFlyBook. www.eflybook.com In the extreme unlikely event that the entire G-1000 takes a dump, that covers all the bases to Aviate, Navigate, and Communicate. (Assuming of course the big fan in the front is still turning!)
  6. SOOOO happy to see a forum in this configuration for us Mooniacs! The email lists just aren't the same. I hope we can merge them in.
  7. Hello all. Scott here. I own an '08 Acclaim. This is my second aircraft. I bought a new Cessna 182 last June (2007) and leased it back to my flight school. At the time, I had just 15 hours of training under my belt. I used the 182 to finish my training. I got my private ticket in September of '07 and then my instrument ticket in January of this year. Once the instrument rating was in hand, I wanted a turbo. After much consideration of the Cessna 400, a tornado alley Bonanza and the Acclaim, I decided on the Acclaim and haven't looked back. Luvin' every minute of it!!
  8. I met Jennifer Mitchell at the Reno Air Races. She is a very nice person. My son and I got our picture taken with her in front of an Acclaim they had on display.
  9. With high crosswinds, I don't like waiting until the flare to "kick it out". I like to know in advance of the flare if I'm going to have enough rudder to straighten it out. That way, I have more time to make a go-around decision and more room for execution if need be. I'll also chime in that I think the Mooney has a bad rap for being difficult to land. Although it might be "different" than other aircraft, it is certainly not difficult. From my perspective, once one understands how to land a Mooney, it is actually quite easy and consistent. Crosswinds are not difficult either. Either you have enough rudder or you don't. If she lines up, land it, if not, go around or go somewhere else.
