  1. I think it could be wonderful. Turbines produce lots of power, run on cheaper fuel and generally have much higher TBO's. I am ecited to see any more information on this bird Mooney put the R500 in in...
  2. Yeah, I find the Mooney lavatory to be a tad cramped
  3. And I now present you all with the image of N5801N after her wing was attacked by a Hughes helecopter! It is small and low quality - but you get the idea - ouch! Thank you Jim for sharing this photo!!!
  4. Hello fellow Mooniacs, Good news, after many hours of laboring over the past 2 days I have completed a very cool new feature for the forums - image attachments. Pretty straight forward, just use the new controls at the bottom of the post form to select image files off your PC and then enter a caption for the photo if you wish. Do not fear, I will next be working on the few improvements everyone else wants like jumping to new posts, nav links on the bottom of the page and other small goodies. Thanks for visiting and fly safe! (attached are some images to show off the cool new feature)
  5. Do the exhausts from AircraftExhaust.com give you the same performance gains as the PF?
  6. No not in Hawaii. Normally aspirated Mooney's are the ultimate aircraft for Hawaii...I even question my climbs to 8500 most flights but still do it for the glide safety for overwater operations (which in my J should be an astounding 18+ nm from that altitude!). Nothing makes me smile more than telling someone I flew from Kona to Honolulu (a 155nm flight) in 1 hour and using about 12-14 gallons of fuel However, I am planning to move back to the mainland in a year or two and with all the work I have into 01N I will be taking her with me. My dream location to move to would be Santa Fe, NM - which has an airport at around 6500 MSL - and common MEA's of 14,000-16,000. Plus for the long trips, getting up into the FLs you can get in excess of 190 KTAS with the normalizer, from what I hear.
  7. It should work when you delete the subscriptions in the "subscriptions" menu item above. It will list them and you can check and delete them. Let me know if you see topics in that list.
  8. I second this - I would like information on experience with the exhaust. I have manual cowl flaps though.
  9. No, this site will never ask for your money unless it is in a volunteer donation fashion. If I need to raise funds to support the site I am pretty confident I can get some sponsors from Mooney related companies. I sell advertising all day long for my other "for profit" websites so that is a natural thing to me I am a firm believer that the most successful sites are free to the end users.
  10. wow, that would be great. You can now get my email from my profile. Thanks!
  11. Cool suggestion I will add something like this to my list of to-dos. You might already know of this but there is a little link on the main view of topics right under the last poster that will let you jump to the newest post. Not quite what you are asking for but convenient if a topic gets to be 10 pages long
  12. I agree, it would be a nice addition to my photo collection!
  13. Another member just emailed me about the NTSB record on my aircraft - which as he pointed out is a remarkable story, and my bird is someone of a legend at the Honolulu hangars because of this... The official 1996 report: http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/brief.asp?ev_id=20001208X06281&key=2 In short, they were using my aircraft to film a TV movie in Honolulu (at the time it was owned by a flight school there). The Hughs helicopter got to close (or visa versa) and chopped off the outer 3ft of the right wing, aileron included! In a testament to our tough Mooney's it came back to land with ease. The Hughes on the other hand did what rotorcrafts do without powered rotors and fell into the drink. Miraculously not a soul was even injured in all of this. Lesson learned: when flying in formation, never take your attention off of the aircraft(s) that are near you! The company here that rebuilt the wing did a perfect job and 12 years later it was actually the left wing that needed the most rivet refurbishing prior to my new paint job. Never did find out what TV movie they were shooting, but that would be a cool fact to know.
  14. I am the proud owner of a 1987 M20J 201 based on the Big Island of Hawaii (Kona Intl Airport - PHKO). I am a 33 year old business owner and operate some pretty large video game related websites. I have been married to my wonderful wife for just over 8 years, and if all goes well we might have some little Mooniacs running around here soon As most of you know, MooneySpace is my pet project, but more than anything my gift to the Mooney loving world! I hope you enjoy the site!
  15. I looked into that one too, boy they are really proud of it though - what a price tag!
  16. Dang Roberto, I love your Mooney! Some day perhaps
  17. No, there won't be any fees for using this site - ever. At some point I might get some Mooney service and part providers to sponsor it for really cheap - just to cover operating costs... Once I massively improve the moderator features this forum came with I would love to add some trusted members as mods. Luckily this community is 1500% more mature than the video game websites I am used to operating, so I am guessing it will be pretty tame here starting out.
  18. The site is set to run on a 1024x768 screen or larger. With the large degree of things this site will do, I need that real estate to work with for the galleries, articles, blogs, etc. Over 95% of users are running 1024x768 or much higher these days...so typically this size is not a problem. I am not sure if it will adversely affect your other computer tasks, but you can change your screen resolution in Windows by right clicking on your desktop area and selecting "Properties" - then there is a settings tab there for adjusting the resolution. You might find your PC got a whole lot roomier after doing this! I could look into making a narrow version of the site, but there is a lot of work in making sure a site looks good in both versions.
  19. Should this be attempted without an engine analyzer? I was under the impression that you should have temps for all 4 cylinders/exhaust before trying this. Is that accurate? I would like to start messing around with this but I fear that one of my unmonitored cylinders will fall into a dangerous temp range...
  20. Thank you guys!
  21. I have upgraded the avatar feature in the "My Profile" area to now accept any sized image - it will automatically resize it down for you. To add an avatar image just click on "My Profile" at the top right of the page then at the appropriate area select "Browse..." to pick the JPG or GIF file off your PC, then click "Save" to upload (be patient as it can take a while to upload big images!) Enjoy!
  22. I have upgraded the avatar uploaded to now accept ANY image. It will auto resize it to fit best in a 125x125 box without distortion. Enjoy!
  23. Ralph, Thank you for the idea. I was hoping to do another option too which would be a daily recap of forum activity on the topics you are participating in with another option for a digest of all discussion from forum(s) of your choice. What you ask for is "kind of" here in the way of colored icons next to each forum and topic. The orange color let's you know that the topic has new activity since your last login. The site will see you as logged in for 30 minutes if you do not explicitly logout. This is the nature of the "stateless" HTTP system for web pages. You request pages from a web server and it fires it to your browser and cuts the cord - it has no idea you are around until you request a new page. Using new technologies like Ajax or Flash you can do a better detection, but there is not really much to gain unless you are offering real time chat, etc. Craig
  24. Thanks Terry! I will change this later to auto-size and shrink as well. I have the back-end tools on the server to do this I just need to code it up. Then you can upload any image without worries of size.
  25. Hello everyone, This post will serve as a list of the features that will be added to this site as well as what is being worked on and ETAs, etc. Please comment in this topic to make suggestions or even just to prod me back to work Member Image Galleries (under development: ETA 10/25/08) - This will be a nice album organized system allowing you to create albums, add photos to those albums, etc. A nice widget will be used that will allow you to upload dozens of photos at one time and easily add your descriptions. Resources Area / Articles (ETA 11/5/08) - This is where we will start adding articles to the system. Each article will be assigned a category and the Mooney model(s) it applies to will also be linked in the system. This will provide the user to search for articles that apply to their particular model (many articles will be set to apply to all models of course). Usefull Homepage (ETA 11/15/08) - This will basically take the home page and make it a summary of the recent and popular content on the site. We can show the recent additions to the photo gallery, recent forum activity, recent articles as well as popular content - where "popular" is determined by either times being read, ratings, or both. THE HANGAR (ETA 12/15/08) - This will be a major feature but probably one of the cooler parts of MooneySpace and where I hope it will become something like "MySpace for Mooniacs" - here you will get to add airplanes to your hangar, add photos for each plane as well as well organized details like upgrades, avionics installed, year, model, etc. In this area will be a basic blog as well where you can easily publish your mad ramblings. Then I hope to give everyone an easy URL for your hangar like http://www.mooneyspace.com/mooniac58/ so you can easily share your hangar with others. Classifieds (ETA 12/31/08) - As the name implies - free, searchable classified ads for Mooney owners. To make life easy - any plane already setup in your "hangar" can be listed for sale in a snap by just checking "for sale" on your airplane and adding the price. This will automatically make it appear in the classifieds section. This is all I have for now. I am gleefully open to suggestions on these items or for new items. If you have seen something cool on another website (aviation related or otherwise) that you think would be a nice addition here let me know! Thanks everyone for visiting
