Panel upgrade - do I have to go Garmin?
Max Clark replied to Max Clark's topic in General Mooney Talk
Yeah - and then there's that. 275 integrated with the IFD is something I had thought about. 3x 275s with the IFD 540/440 and KFC 225 or right back into the full G3x based pannel -

My issue isn’t the 540/440 features - they’re a great product. My issue is if I end up with Garmin for everything else, it won’t make sense to keep them. -
Panel upgrade - do I have to go Garmin?

That’s so weird - was uploaded first and ended up last. Yes it’s the bottom with the King Attitude and HSI. I’ve been flying G1000 for the last year, there are certain things that are just easier to do so that’s what’s in my mind. -
I’m in escrow for an Ovation2 DX. The plane has been updated with an EDM 730 engine monitor and Avidyne IFD 540 + 440 Nav Coms (first photo). While trying to not go stir crazy waiting in escrow I’ve been researching options for updating the panel. I keep running into two issues: Integrated Autopilot support MFD options for the right seat To summarize: Garmin 275 / G5 will drive the KFC autopilot, but will not take a feed from the IFDs (not listed on Garmin’s website as supported at least) Dynon HDX integrates great with the IFD, but I’m reading all sorts of mixed things about IFD -> Dynon -> KFC issues Dynon has not certified their autopilot for Mooney (who knows when) Dynon does not have a portrait MFD that will fit in front on the right seat I’ve only been able to come up with three options: Leave everything as is (I’m actually looking forward to flying with the 6 pack this summer while transitioning) Replace the vacuum driven instruments with an Aspen PFD/MFD (questions on this below) Redo everything with G3x, G5, GTN, and GFC 500 (awesome but pricey) TLDR; Questions on the Aspen (esp. if you have one): An Evolution E5 Dual Electronic lists at $5k - am I going to regret not adding a MFD? I’ve read posts that the Aspen MFD cannot get full details from the IFD due to interface limitations - is this accurate? Besides the vacuum removal, having an integrated GPSS is a big plus - does the Aspen provide enough sensitivity for LPV approaches? Is this just a waste of money and time, should I just wait until I can do the Garmin? Anyone have any secret news on Dynon autopilot I should consider? Thanks!

Is there anyway to get a POH in PDF format? Looking for POH-003800B for a M20R Ovation2 DX Thanks!

I'll double check on the spinner - just a note that I've seen on other posts Fuel funnel w/ filter was a comment from the seller. He used self serve somewhere and it had algae contamination. Don't know how prevalent this is or not, just one of those after it happens to you once things.... I'm a shoes always guy as well, just passing along previous comments. Thanks! -

Hadn't thought of this, do you have access to the plug via the baggage compartment? Lol true story That trunk organizer looks great thanks! So many comments about tubes and inflator, I'm gathering that blown tires are a real common thing. Flare gun check -

Good point on the headsets - I already have four ANC so that's not on my list. Emergency blanket and first aid kits were a big miss, adding that to my list thanks! -

Basic toolbox in the plane for sure. Yours was the first mention of spare bulb - sounds like there might be a story... I'm pretty deep into Foreflight so using it for checklists isn't a bad idea. I do like having paper in the pocket to refer to, it's hard for that to fail. Ordered the laminated Checkmate checklists, curious to see how I like them. -

exactly this - and I can't wait. Just going a little stir crazy for escrow. -
Inspired by this Facebook Mooney Pilots Group post: List of things to buy when I close on my first plane? I saw prist/plexus mentioned somewhere for the windshield cleaning. What else? I'm buying a Mooney M20R Ovation. Pre-buy found one thing slated for correction this week, moving forward with escrow and will probably close in a couple of weeks. This is my first airplane - the phrase I keep using is "I don't even know what questions I should be asking" in the process. I've been fortunate that several people have taken me under their wing to help me along the way. The seller has been absolutely fantastic and spent several hours with me the other day to show/teach me everything he could think of / wished someone had done for him when he bought it. I've been trying to figure out what essentials I should be buying right away, what are things I'll probably want pretty quickly, and what tips/tricks will save me a lot of pain and aggravation. How would you rank these lists? Anything that you would add or skip? Basics (Immediate Need): Hangar (found one - it's far but will be a good home until something closer opens up) Canopy cover (coming with the plane - I've seen notes on tail cover, is this something I should get?) Gnats Jar (have one) Tow bar (coming with plane) Pitot cover (w/ spare) Chocks CO detector (my sentry has it built in, should I get another?) Checklist (have always used Qref, who makes a good one for the M20R?) Pee/Puke bags Do it yourself cleaning and maintenance: Spray detailer to clean leading edges (brand?) Windscreen: Prist/Plexus (or Lemon Pledge) RainX for Plastic Chrome polish for spinner Microfiber Rags (different colors for windscreen and skin - lots of them) Blue shop towels Vacuum cleaner with long hose for interior Fuel Filter Funnel (for self serve - any recommendations) Oil, Filters, CamGuard, and Funnel (planning on changing oil myself) Safety Wire Creeper Simple Green Aviation formula Tri-Flow Compressor & Basic tools Nice to haves / lessons learned: Rear window shades Organizer for Baggage Comfy slippers to fly in Garmin InReach Cowl plugs Extra cam locks for cowling Cowl plugs Tie Down Straps (preferences) Spark plugs & wrench Battery Minder Power Supply Do I need this: Black Max engine dehydrator General recommended things to do: Join MAPA Transition training (scheduled) Mooney Safety Foundation pilot proficiency programs (PPP) Thanks!

Did you find anyone running the AeroVue Touch / what did you end up deciding to do? If Dynon had an autopilot the Dynon + Avidyne combo makes sense, without the autopilot harder decision.

Foreflight Aircraft & Performance Profile Question
Max Clark replied to Max Clark's topic in General Mooney Talk
Thanks! -
Why does Foreflight identify a M20R as a M20P (not a huge thing in the grand scheme of life, but makes my OCD go crazy every time I see it lol)? Are the different performance profiles engine options - do you know? Is this a flip through the POH and line them up? Thanks!

Hi all, I'm looking for a CFI/CFII that can take me through transition training. Proper procedures for takeoff, landings, power settings, maneuvers, you name it. Thanks! Max
