  1. Check that....may have to invest in some O2....Albuquerque sounding better all the time
  2. Just surfing on line and Colorado Air and Space Port (KCFO) sounds promising. Anyone been there?
  3. Hi, I am planning a flight from Houston to Vancouver and was planning a pit stop around Denver (also thinking of maybe Albuquerque depending on wx). I probably want to avoid major airports so can you recommend a good GA airport in the area?
  4. Thanks everyone. Its a Long Eze and I think I'm just going to pass on it as the thought of a major overhaul in the near future seems very likely and very expensive no doubt.
  5. Hi, It is an O 320. Flown about 150 over the past 2 yrs.
  6. Hi, Looking at buying this aircraft with the following engine info, including the latest borescope: 2769.3 TTE 1253.5 SMOH Cyl 1 - 64/80 Cyl 2 - 60/80 Cyl 3 - 40/80 (leaking compression at rings; slight pitting Cyl 4 - 73/80 Not sure what was done on the "SMOH". Not sure if there is an oil analysis available but will check. If the oil is fine I'm guessing most likely need to pull the cylinder head of #3 and replace the rings? Engine produces full power. Cost of repair?? Maybe $3,000?? for the one cylinder? Is that time pretty much at the end of the engines life?
  7. I'm in Canada and am hearing anything from $5K to 8K for a yearly annual. Please tell me its cheaper in the US of A?
  8. The 3 main ones I know of are Garmin, Dynon and Avidyne. I'm guessing they all offer comparable equipment....but which gives the best bang for the buck? Comparing something comparable to say 2 x Garmon G5's and a GTN 650?
  9. How do you get in contact with Don?
  10. I'm ballparking in an attempt to pick areas for suitable airports/alternates.
  11. I'm guessing for 120kt ground speed going into wind (fingers crossed) probably for max of 4 hrs (10GPH avg) for VFR reserve - so maybe a 500NM leg comfortably? That's my guess? Real world?
  12. I've read that Lycoming has approved many 360 engines for use with pump gas. Any issues?
  13. Should have mentioned I'm in Canada (probably worse for taxes)
  14. Looking to buy an aircraft but not liking the idea of spending another $15,000 if there is sales tax on top of the purchase price. If it is a private sale (person to person) is there tax? If it is bought from a company then will you have to pay tax?
  15. Hi, Just trying to learn Am I right in assuming that a reading of 80 (psi?) is perfect the cylinder leak check? I think I typically see reading of the 4 cylinders as something like 76/78/78/74 and slight variations to that. I did see one example which was 72/78/76/78....would the 72 be a cause for concern or as long as they are reasonably close to one another then its okay? At what reading do you start to worry about work needed?
  16. Thanks for that...it sounds as though the J is more inline with my pocket book
  17. I guess the upside would be better performance in high hot conditions and rate of climb?
  18. Understood...but I'm kinda curious if that affects insurance coverage?
  19. So you just keep flying until an issue shows up like say low compression numbers? If so then whats the point of the "TBO" number? Also, does going beyond that number effect insurance or do you just need to pass the annual to keep your insurance?
  20. Typically it seems that a 4 cylinder IO Lycoming engine has a lifespan of 2000 hrs before a major overhaul is required? What exactly happened when you get to those hours? Is it a mandatory inspection that determines what needs to be "fixed" or do you have to replace the entire engine? Can you get an exemption to fly it longer? What is the cost of a major overhaul for this type of engine?? Curious as I do not have a clue
  21. I live in Newfoundland and the cost of a liter of 100LL at St Johns airport is $3.79/lt...that works out to about $14 Cdn per gallon?? Thats nuts!! Are things better in the good ole US of A??
  22. Hi, IIRC fuel burn for a Lycoming 200hp 4 cylinder in cruise is around ~8-12 gph? What would it be for a Continental IO-550A 300hp 6 cylinder? I'm guessing 10-14gph? Guess my question is how much more per hour does this add up too in operating cost?
