Considerations of cost ( also factoring incremental spend ability ) and safety ( useful information for SA and redundancy ). My thoughts... I desire steam backup. Panel fire, short-out, alternator / battery failure. EFIS AI's backed with vacuum legacy AI. Triple AI... majority wins comparison. Smaller lower cost navigator synced to IPAD is a cost effective map solution. I don't believe ADS-B in weather is available in the near future in my region, so lightning strike display desired with the aid of ground planning for storm avoidance. GI-275 I believe can drive legacy king autopilot AND GFC-500 at a later date when control/servo units go down. JPI EDM-900 primary over 10" G3X and Garmin EIS as it allows incremental engine monitoring before major panel G3X upgrade. Independent engine/fuel information separate to PFD/MFD appeals... software/power supply considerations. Feel free to add criticism and ideas.

Does the Dynon Cert Skyview HDX system feature AUDIO terrain alerting / and PFD visual alerting? I.e 'audio' - caution terrain, or pull up pull up etc, and/or PFD amber and red written displayed messages - 'caution terrain' / 'Pull up Pull up'. I believe the G3X has the audios at least ? Also, regarding the 'profile' view the G3X features, does the Dynon cert Skyview HDX feature a vertical situation type map display ? Additionally, I believe the G3X can accept and display WX-500 lightning strike data and display on it's map, but the Skyview HDX can't... can anyone confirm?

Up grade pathway ideas. I guess no AP altitude capture / altitude preselect until either GFC500 or Dynon Cert AP installed.

Copy yes some good points. I'm thinking if total electrical failure or fire the steam might give me enough to keep control and find clear land. Dynon backup required with Skyview HDX 10.6" I believe. If could put a G5 in place legally i would go that for sure. Anyone with more info on this...

Copy thanks. Its about 900 ish I believe so not too costly of a double up. Could run ADS-B traffic IN on skyview panel and weather on L3 lynx display and declutter i guess... i don't know anything about L3 so just guessing. Maybe the Garmin GNX375can feed the skyview ADS-B traffic and weather hmm.

Thanks!. Also considering Dynon Certified mixed with Garmin GNX 375. I'm still trying to work out optimum EFIS / Eng monitoring / Autopilot upgrades. Questions if you or others know... 1) What am I missing for components required in the Garmin install option list, and/or Dynon list also ? 2) Would Garmin GNX375 GPS/Transponder with ADS-B out and in for ~ 8k, output traffic and weather to a Skyview HDX display? 3) Will the Dynon autopilot (Hopefully approved for Mooney) likely have specific approval for LPV approaches down to ~ 200' AGL? 4) Would it be legal if Dynon Skyview was installed and legacy autopilot driven off an existing turn coordinator or attitude indicator that's moved to right side panel (Possible thought until Dynon autopilot is approved... risk - autopilot doesn't get approved at all ). Ill post below a mock up I did in MS paint (such a difficult program for it ha)

Hi, Interested in pros vs cons and functionality regarding Terrain awareness and avoidance from the following navigators... Garmin 175/355/375 series VS Avidyne IFD410/440 series. Additionally, what terrain functions from the two above would / would not be available when paired with the following two... Garmin G3X touch 10.6" display OR Skyview HDX 10" ( 4 combinations ) Thanks

I'm in Sydney Australia. Copy great info, thanks!! -
Hi again, Trying to get similar functionality... EFIS SA, LPV autopilot approach capability, ADS-B IN wx and traffic, Engine monitoring, plus Terrain awareness and alerting. Interested in pros and cons, is this a fair comparison (if not what equipment lines up side by side better), compatibility comments, costings (RRP), and INSTALL TIMES if anyone would like to comment. Also is it possible to drive legacy autopilots from Dynon attitude equipment or would TC or Vac AI have to remain? Thanks
-
Thanks Bill, this train of thought is what I'm now on. 10.6" G3X with EIS
-
Copy. Is Dynon certified ADAHRS display, certified to drive any legacy autopilots like BK or STEC... I assume not.

Thank you to all replies. Taken a few options on board. Much appreciated. 10.6" over 7" she likes better ha G5 over GI275 helps to pay for it. Don't need SID/STAR VNAV protection too often so happy with value GNX375 with inbuilt transponder. Still desiring steam backup... Two lots of 2 1/4 inches and 3 1/8 probably fit there. Remote GTR 20 COMM via G3X touch saves a little and nice integration. PS Eng. Audio panel seem both good value and a great product... can't afford Garmin voice commands at this stage. If Dynon would come through with AP approval I might re think once again. Hmm which Navigator COM/NAV would integrate with Dynon and will the Dynon A/P be good for LPV... a whole another topic!!

Oh copy. Appreciate the info thanks
-
Oh great to hear! I'm becoming a Dynon advocate more n more by the second. Now for the autopilot!!! Thanks for reply

Thanks very much for your detailed reply Steven. I'm on a budget, so probably sticking with GNX375 (seems to price out much better than alternative secondhand GTN650 and remote transponder units accounting for no com. 'With the GFC500 AP, you won't reap the benefit of VNAV functionality without one or more GTN navigators.' Could you elaborate on this comment... i wish to be able to do LPV and LNAV/VNAV approaches. PS Engineering audio panel seems the way to go, thanks. Also I assume a non Garmin radio (ICOM A220 etc.) would mean the ability to tune com frequencies through G3x touch would disappear? Perhaps a Garmin GTR 20 remote mount would be a good cost effective solution... but if G3X goes you lose a radio I gather.

Hi, nice panel. Looking into Dynon. Question from above. I assume, unlike the Garmin 10.6" and EIS, one can't have Dynon engine monitoring on the 10" only, i.e. you would need a second dedicated screen? (7" acceptable ?)
