Dim light indication in Annunciator Panel for "Gear Down"
M20TN_Driver replied to M20TN_Driver's topic in Acclaim Owners
Very Interesting. You are 100% correct. Yes I did recently swap all lights out for LED. I guess I need to go back to Gallagher Aviation that sold me the LEDs for the acclaim--never mentioned that this would need to be addressed. Atleast it is a known thing so I am not chasing ghosts! Thank you all so much for the help. -

Dim light indication in Annunciator Panel for "Gear Down"
M20TN_Driver replied to M20TN_Driver's topic in Acclaim Owners
Nav lights are not on. All lights are normal except that light. -
So i thought initially that it was just a burned out bulb, so I replaced it and still have a very dim indicator light for Gear Down. Even when pushing the test button in I am getting just very faint/dim indication. The gear is actually down and the football on the floor is lit and showing gear down properly. I know the annunciator is a "convenience" indication for the gear, but I'd like it working properly. Any suggestions on this one? I would have thought it was a wiring issue or something to do with the switch in that triggers the indicator IF the test button didn't also show a really dim indication. And that friends is the issue--its so dim you cannot see if in daylight flight conditions.

Strobe Power Supply for right wingtip
M20TN_Driver replied to M20TN_Driver's topic in Acclaim Owners
Ended up being a bad wire to the left wingtip. Ended up swapping out the whole setup for LED and have now posted the complete lighting package removed from the Acclaim in the classified on the site. Thanks you all for the help/guidance. -
Strobe Power Supply for right wingtip

Thanks for that. Very kind. If I determine it’s actually the power supply, I’d love to take you up on that offer ;-) -

Who did your LED setup? Are you then able to remove the Whelen power supplies or are these drop in replacements to the existing lamps only? -
Strobe Power Supply for right wingtip
M20TN_Driver replied to M20TN_Driver's topic in Acclaim Owners
Well that is true. It was a guaranteed to be working unit…bench tested with a yellow tag. But who knows. Maybe it wasn’t. I’m going to switch the leads on the power supply from the right side to the left side and see if that works. If so, then I know one side is dead and one isn’t. -
Strobe Power Supply for right wingtip

I swapped the power supply out with another identical unit and had the exact same issue so not thinking that both Power supplies would have the exact same problem... Love the LED for sure... -
Strobe Power Supply for right wingtip
M20TN_Driver replied to M20TN_Driver's topic in Acclaim Owners
Oh boy. That's what I was afraid of. My concern is that I now have a wiring issue between the bulkhead and the right wing... -
I will start the thread by saying I have only owned this plane for 3 years and do not have a shop manual for it. So I am probably asking questions that I shoudn't be ;-) However I found during on inspection that the right wingtip strobe was out on my bird. Nav lights work fine. Left, and Tail strobe work fine. I have tried a new strobe in the right wing but determined that it is not the bulb...both the new strobe bulb that I installed and the existing strobe bulb work in the left wingtip. So then I went to the power supply mounted on the pilot side avionics bay bulkhead and it is also not the problem...swapped it out...same issue. I noticed that there is also a Whelen power supply in the tail that looks to be just for the tail strobe--it works. So my question is this: Is there another power supply in each wing dedicated to each strobe? Is there one in the right wing somewhere that might be the issue? I'm not sure where to go from here. The folks at Savvy are telling me there is one per strobe. So no clue where the one would be mounted for the right wingtip. I looked at the inspection panels under right wing (there are a ton of them) and none had additional screw mounts for holding a power supply. Sooo, I thought I would ask this extremely knowledgeable group on where I should start. All help appreciated. The pics below are the two I found--both working as they should.

Did you ever get this issue sorted? Mine is a TKS model (much needed out here near lake tahoe). I think my acclaim is def slower than book numbers, but how far off I have not tried to quantify. I just flew back from Park City and I was at 13k flying LOP 14.7gph and 2400 getting 180kts ground speed. Zero wind component. I don't think I took note of TAS.

Well mine was just repainted so not "Pretty Obvious" or I wouldn't have asked... But thank you to all--my belly is painted all black so without crawling under the cowling with a flash light I would have had a tough time finding it. Strange thing is that the longer threaded jackpad that came with the plane doesn't seem to fit the hole. Yet another mystery to unravel.

Looking for Acclaim LH Main gear door
M20TN_Driver replied to M20TN_Driver's topic in Acclaim Owners
Thanks for the heads up. I've worked with Don in the past and in fact, Paul said to ship the door to them and they'd fix it. I preferred a new one if I could find one and it worked out great. This is an awesome forum and I am appreciative of the support! -
THanks all--I'll take a look. Damn--now i guess I need to buy three stands instead of two ;-)

Hi folks. Now that I have my gear door going back on, I am going to need to jack the plane and do a full gear swing to ensure everything goes back in the right place. I have been told that on our Acclaims there is a jackpoint on the nose somewhere--although I can find NO reference to it in the POH. Is this is a myth? If not, does anyone have a location or ideally a photo of where to jack this bad boy? All help appreciated!

Mine is flown LOP when I am not in a hurry and usually traveling a bit farther---I operate out of Carson City and typically operate 12-17k feet. The heat doesn't blow as hot as the old janitrol heater in my Seneca III, but it does push out warmer (not hot air) at these altitudes.

Looking for Acclaim LH Main gear door
M20TN_Driver replied to M20TN_Driver's topic in Acclaim Owners
Thanks to all for the help--Special thanks to Deb who connected me up with Oasis who (by some small miracle) actually had a LH acclaim main door in stock! For the low, low price of $1700 it is being shipped as we speak ;-) -
Looking for Acclaim LH Main gear door
M20TN_Driver replied to M20TN_Driver's topic in Acclaim Owners
It failed in flight--from the look of the U hinge, it almost appears as thought it was a defect in casting. The metal split down the center--it didn't simply break off. It actually cracked along a line down the center of the casting. It had a good deal of rust on it, so clearly had been failing long before I took ownership a few years ago. We don't get rust or corrosion here in NV. -
Looking for Acclaim LH Main gear door
M20TN_Driver replied to M20TN_Driver's topic in Acclaim Owners
Thanks. We have called the factory--they don't have any and no timeframe provided to make any...I think this is, unfortunately the way things are going to Mooney and Mooney owners these days. -
Thanks for all of the help on this folks--finally got to the bottom of this. Dead downconverter was the culprit. No idea why my multi-meter showed it getting no power....I can only assume I did not make contact at the bottom of the fuse holder. It is a strange setup as the cigarette adapter in the M20-TN are breakered in the avionics bay behind the rear bulkhead. it is powered from the right side battery and has a single inline fuse only. SO, for the gentleman that started the thread, I can only say this is where all the good stuff is found on the Acclaim. Good news is that I was able to source a replacement unit for $20 off ebay! They want $500 for them new.

Hi folks. I know this is going to be a long shot, but I have called many savage yards without any luck so I figured I would give MS a try: I had a hing give way in flight--the result is a badly damaged main gear door that needs to be replaced. I am not sure what they are called, but the little "U" shaped deals that are mounted to the outboard inside of the wheel well cracked. I have topgun out here in Stockton trying to reach Mooney about sourcing a new door. I am wondering if any of you might have or know of anyone/anywhere I can get my hands on the required parts? All help appreciated.
-
Thanks for the guidance. Right now I have been traveling and have not fully investigated. When i put the multi-meter on the supply side where the fuse connects to the battery supply wire, I am getting 0. Which was telling me the converter was likely not even getting charge, so looking for the feed to it and as PaulM mentioned--was hoping there is another fuse back there. The one in the picture tested fine.

It should have read "24v to 14v" above. The inline fuse I checked and it is not the problem. What would be really helpful is to figure out where this bad boy gets its power source from.
