  1. I decided to change my mind and do two G5’s instead of the AV-30. Now need to get a cheap GAD 29B.
  2. I hear you, am aware of some of the potential issues on it. Presession sure will be an issue if it’s there but I plan on displaying GPS on top tape to begin with in AI mode. It’s the reason my HSI is a G5 and not AV30 (and legality). So many reasons why I chose this route, vacuum gotta go, all these steam gauges and pump are timing out anyway, been an early adopter of SkyBeacon working with UAvionix on certified units, had first test batch installed on couple planes. I am a year away from IMC and at the rate these guys are taking care of stuff I choose to believe they will sort out the issues. Compare timeline of UAvionix to some other companies we waiting for on here and you gotta agree they’re not doing too bad. Seen and flown 2 different planes (none Mooney) with AV30 and was genuinely impressed. Should AV30 become insufficient a year later when I’m ready to bust thru clouds pulling it out for a G5 isn’t rocket science. Digital G5 not being able to transmit two lines across the screen from their own 430 and needing another box is rocket science...
  3. Got it, so even though the 430 was driving the Century HSI with glide slope already the G5 still needs the GAD 29 to receive same info
  4. Howdy! I am sure this has already been asked gazillion times and I searched the forum for half hour and couldn’t find the answer. I’m about to start my IFR training on my M20E and found the old steam gauges don't cut it so I spent my never-gonna-happen-or-come-out autopilot budget on safety items. I’m in the middle of installing uAvionix AV-30 as my primary AI and got Moving Map, audio and all the wiring done for it no issues there but... My problem is I am installing Garmin G5 as my HSI, I want to replace the old analog one with a single G5. I have GNS 430 (non-waas) which already drives vacuum driven HSI. I know G5 must have GMU 11 for a magnetometer but my dilemma is the GAD 29. On every single page of the install manual it shows as its only needed if G5 is being interfaced to 2nd G5 or a third party navigator or to an autopilot. I am doing neither one of the 3. Single G5 as HSI with magnetometer. So do I need the GAD 29? The existing HSI is already being driven by the 430 and the G5 is replacing the analog, already shows glideslope on ILS (non-waas so no VNAV which I am OK with). I am decent on avionics work but hate pinning out the 430 with passion and my weak spot is ARINC knowledge. I'm justifying my stupidity that current steam gauge already shows course and glideslope on GPS and VLOC so can G5 show same info without the GAD 29.
  5. I decided to keep it open for now. I did try with temporary iPad mount there but the angle is so far off that it makes it useless
  6. Went for $100 burger. Flew perfect and engine gauges no issues. Very happy with it.
  7. I have few hundred hours in this Mooney already so insurance wise I’m good. As far as CO2 monitor I still have and use the Foreflight’s Sentry with crazy loud audible alarm and works very well, plan on continuing to use just for that. More pics to come soon, Did about 6-7 touch n go’s and 3 high speed taxi’s done, on last taxi I got a bit too excited and ended up taking off. Just stayed in pattern in case something went wrong. Very pleased!
  8. Well I’m happy to report she’s all done. Paperwork in logbook and test flights went perfect, no squawks and no adjustments! Was perfect!
  9. Yeah it;s nice to have the TAS computed on the fly and displayed along with airspeed. Important not to use yellow/red colors as they trigger alarms. They hooked it up to the GNS 430 for gps data and engine monitor also sends fuel data to 430 for it's own trip fuel planning. As far as OAT I believe the error is in the calculation factor from raw data as its not off by certain degrees but rather multiplied as it increases. will worry about that one later tho not a biggie.I didn't get a chance to see wheels go up on the screen, but I really hope they do was nervous with the plane on jacks when they were swinging the gear
  10. The way I like it....with primary instruments as req. Still don't know how the landing gear warning will work till I fly it. Did a run up last night, all perfect except couple small squawks on the audio panel and I think my OAT is not computing correctly, shows high. Hoping my guy doesn't cancel on friday for static/pitot.
  11. I have to add to make it known, I am beyond pleased with Electronics International's support on this. I've had my share of dealing with other avionics companies and they should take some lessons from E.I. on how to support their customers. It felt like Dave from E.I. was literally in the hangar and knew exactly what we needed. Looking at the pictures of the panel now and it's just sinking in how awesome this new setup is, not to even mention added safety! Love it! Thanks again E.I. and Dave!
  12. Installation of everything as of yesterday is all done and everything worked as it should. Paid Electronics International their 300 bucks and got my file, worked first try. Fuel calibration was pain in the rear. Next Friday we have static/pitot/transponder checks schedule and test flight that weekend. Plane will unfortunately just sit finished for 4 days since it’s not legal without certs but I need few nights off to myself too, been at the hangar every night since we started. Tomorrow they will do one more run-up and install interior panels and cowls. Panel paint looks way better in person, light from everywhere changes it as it’s so matte. Happy with how everything turned out!
  13. Not to toot my own horn but TOOOOOT!!! Came out beautiful! As far as tie wraps - will remove, have another spot to put it at.
  14. I looked at the other Mooney and their doghouse looks different than mine, I think somebody in the past has re-made the entire doghouse thus it being mounted different. As far as the tie wraps I am 50-50 on it, it's extremely low weight item but if it's an issue I could take them off, just didn't want the wire flopping around. Hoping for it to be all done this week!
  15. Your cat scan is correct except I don’t have that on mine
  16. Had to bring in somebody knowledgeable to overlook the engine.
  17. I doubt to have any fuel flows on the run up as I think it’s on wrong channel. As far as elbow I had the old red cube from from old fuel meter which is identical we only replaced it with new and old meter was very accurate so not expecting issues as it’s all the same. Wiring in Bose LEMO plugs now while they finishing engine.
  18. I know what you mean! Those things have burnt my fingers and fell on my head way too many times! I used two of these and wired them on individual switches for red and white: OPTILITE FAA-PMA Dual Color
