  1. The ones I have are pitted. I cleaned them up but I am sure they are beyond service. I figured while the plane is down for annual and I'm doing the windshield, and adding The autopilot I should address some of the 50 year old parts. I'll take pictures this week Sent from my E6910 using Tapatalk
  2. I'd like to replace the control tubes/rods for the rudder and elevator. Does anyone know where to buy the tubes? The joints at both ends are good but the tubes have seen better days.
  3. Finally got a hold of a Garmin rep that verified the GFC500 for the F model will come with the brackets and the electric trim assembly for models that don't have trim already installed. The only extra will be a yaw servo. Also they figure first time installs for dealers is close to 50hrs plus depending on previous sins found that might hinder installation. The rep had some humor and said that some of these older models are a little challenging especially some that have older APs installed.
  4. This might get real easy real fast. Does anyone know if Garmin planned for planes that do not have electric trim to be able to add the option for electric trim in the install package? Then my hunting would be over and I don't have to recreate the wheel. All I have to do then is work another job and I can get what is needed.
  5. What model of aircraft are you having this installed in? Does your plane already have electric trim?
  6. I have flown a 182 multiple times and the electric trim is awesome. I really was just trying to get it all done this go around with putting the windshield in. I am tired of fixing the thing and would like to fly it more. I can just skip the AP all together but I already have two G5s and a GAD29 with wire in the wings ready for the AP. 7. I have thought about it. Problem is I'm too far into this one. I wouldn't be so quick to add an AP but I have no option but to do a windshield. So if I have to do a shield a 201 upgrade makes sense. That however blocks easy access to the wiring. As for redesign it seems silly to run current carrying wires thru a yoke. 16-18ga wire makes me think why when a 20ga wire carrying little to no current works just fine. I get it's a 1967 and back then it was the way to do things but there is a better way. Sent from my E6910 using Tapatalk
  8. The Fargo FSDO is the entrance to the almighty. The have a core group that sees one way or the other. Even when proof of logic is profoundly evident. Sent from my E6910 using Tapatalk
  9. Not contesting the way its been. However would it be possible to have the load circuit stay out of the yoke and only be a control circuit in the yoke. My thinking is keep the control circuit being .5A or less in the yoke and the 7-12A in the tunnel. the breaker would interrupt the load side allowing a full disconnect. Since the F has never had an electric trim adding one can I directly design a circuit to meet the needs and get a signoff?
  10. I have been looking for the power trim system and I think I found one that will work. But as I get further into this I realized I need the controls to operate it. So does one add switches to the original yokes till new model yokes become available for a reasonable price or do you panel mount the switch. Second issue is there must be a relay that is controlling the motor load and if so where is that located or can one wire in DPDT relay and call it good? I'm sure that aviation electrons and Auto/diesel electrons are different so I figured I'd ask first.
  11. It's good to keep a spare Sent from my E6910 using Tapatalk
  12. So if I go with the gfc500 and want trim to be controlled by the AP then I need all that to make it work because Garmin doesn't include that??? Sent from my E6910 using Tapatalk
  13. You forgot a picture of the chain........ Sent from my E6910 using Tapatalk
  14. Yeah that is it. Lol Sent from my E6910 using Tapatalk
  15. Even better. I was wondering how they controlled the heat. So a simple sprocket with a cross pin design. Sent from my E6910 using Tapatalk
  16. I didn't! but I just looked. Thanks!
  17. I think all I am needing is the small sprocket that is welded on the trim shaft. The rest is magic. I am sure a J model would fit. MY F is almost a J minus the cowling.
  18. Ok I already have to G5s and a GAD 29. Thanks
  19. I am looking to install an electric trim and looking for the parts to do so.
  20. Does anyone know what the cost of the tree axis system will cost for an F? I see the website says starting at 6995 but I was just quoted 12.7 just for the parts. Kind of scratching my head.
  21. Ok I understand what you are saying. I am definitely listening. If my F had a RayJay and I get my IFR ticket does that make that trip more doable. I'm stuck with this plane I want /need a 252 but I can't sell and make up the difference without doing all this work all over. So the best option is to keep modifying and learning on my F. 22. Thank you for the answers especially the G500[emoji1]. This Forum is absolutely the best tool to have if you own a Mooney. I need to plan and pack. My next issue is the annual and the windshield. However if the G500is a go it might be a good time for that too with the windshield out of the way. Sent from my E6910 using Tapatalk
  23. Well then I need to ask Santa for O2 and a RayJay and the Gods to release the Garmin 500 for an F model. Or win the lottery and get a 252. [emoji2] Sent from my E6910 using Tapatalk
  24. I am reaching out to the guys that travel distance in their Mooney. I bought this thing to travel and I had the same hang-ups when I ventured the first time to Long Island and now it is pretty easy. I live in ND where air traffic is easy to navigate and the first time into the east coast airspace was a real eye opener. Nothing I wasn't shocked with just had to be on my A game. Now I would like to venture out of the snow this winter and head south west. I have family in Apache Junction I'd like to visit but I only really see that I have one corridor to travel. KHZE-KCPR-KIWA. I'm working on my IFR ticket but am a solid VFR pilot. Two things I don't have is O2 and an autopilot. Your thoughts. Time line is December thru March. I have an annual this month and a windshield upgrade to finish.
  25. I was losing my mind not getting in contact and sure enough they were just super busy and needed some time. I am still a NYer and my time seems to move a little faster than most. Dan@LASAR got my order shipped and handled without incident and kept me in the loop the whole way. UPS on the other hand I think carried the box on the outside of the truck and when it was delivered it was obviously damaged by the shipping company. I called Dan right away, sent pictures and it was handled, Problem solved! It was an absolute pleasure not to have to fight the system. I was a little more than irate when I was gearing up to call and within minutes of talking to Dan the situation was handled and replacement parts were on the way. THANK YOU LASAR. As for UPS they have called scheduled an inspection and tried multiple avenues as to explain how the box got cellophane tape on the bottom and a forklift tine thru the side of the box. The local adjuster even tried to tell me that she can buy that windshield kit for under $700. I told her go ahead and I'd buy two! Lucky the tine never hit the windshield or the other panel pieces only the hardware pouch fell out.
