  1. Thanks for the feedback! So I'm looking at logs, unfortunately the digital copies I have are a little fuzzy, but I do see the entry concerning MTOW looks like SB M20-248, something like that. So that should be covered Looking for info on the crank AD, may just ask broker. LRT? IPC/MM? Yea transponder I'm not too worried about b/c soon it will have to be upgraded anyway for ADS-B compliance.
  2. Yea that's what I was thinking too. "Cosmetic" hail damage on a couple of the wings. I've seen it in pictures it does look minor.
  3. https://www.controller.com/listings/aircraft/for-sale/17959369/1989-mooney-m20m-bravo Really like the looks of this Bravo. I've been doing research on the Bravo platform and have picked the brains of the Mooney owners I know but would love some feedback from some Bravo owners themselves. Just let me know your thoughts on this plane and things to keep a close eye out for. Thanks for any input!
  4. I'll cast a vote for KORL too. It's the closest to Winter Park, they have nice facilities and the airport isn't that crazy. KMCO is far enough to the south that you shouldn't interfere too much since your coming from the north. I've flown VFR into KORL a couple of times no problem.
  5. Just a quick update. I've called all the finance organizations everyone recommended and Dorr, NAFCO, and AOPA seem the best options and were all very close in terms and rates. Dorr included escrow/title work in their fee so I consider that a plus. 20yr fixed terms, 4.73-4.9% interest with 15% down is what I saw between all 3. Other options that were listed at worse terms or interest.
  6. Don Maxwell has been doing annuals. Plane looks extremely clean and mechanic in question does have experience doing PPI with Mooney's. Hahaha cost of plane is definitely way less than my house, but much more than my 1990 Chevy Pickup. I'm shopping for my first Tesla tho
  7. I've had a mechanic recommendation for a guy based in Brewton to do my prebuy based on a fellow aircraft owner and friend, and I was just curious if anyone on here has any experience using him. Don't know if it is taboo to place his name out there in the open so I won't for now, but Brewton is a pretty small place so...it's most likely the same guy. My friend owns a 182 and just bought a Beech so just wanted to get any feedback if there are some Mooney owners that have used him. Thanks!
  8. I was hoping for at least a Garmin 430/530W. I know I could always upgrade the panel but from what I hear from all of you guys is that it's always cheaper to buy a plane with it already installed.
  9. Thanks for the tips guys. Looks like I know where to go when I get my J thanks
  10. With all of these I'm a bit more worried about the engine times. The '81 is especially concerning given its history of major changes and little time flown after major engine parts were replaced.
  11. Thanks for the info! What is DOM mean? And I had no idea destin used to be a MSC. What a shame it closed....
  12. Thanks for the info. Maybe one of these days I can come check out your F model! I've heard good things about Kurtis from a Columbia owner then a Piper Cherokee owner had a horrible experience with another mechanic up there.
  13. But it's my understanding that even after the first few months whenever you bring it to Florida you must pay the tax if you haven't elsewhere.
  14. In preparation for buying my J I'll need to find a good mechanic somewhere around my home airport of Destin. Anyone have any experience or good people to recommend in these parts? Thanks!
  15. Yea the engine is questionable. In a post above I described it but will repost here to get more opinions on the current engine situation: For 1st plane listed the 1981 one: Major overhaul in 2006. Then case crack in '14 leading to bottom end replacement. In '15 a top overhaul was done. 1550hrs since '06 in its present state. So engine has an assortment of part replacements making me question it. Now...the plane sat for 3 months after July 2015 and then has flown about 15 hrs since....
  16. Yea the MX20 is a no factor in my book. There is some interesting info I found out concerning the logs on the '81. MOH in 2006. Then case crack in '14 leading to bottom end replacement. In '15 a top overhaul was done. 1550hrs since '06 in its present state.
  17. Thanks for the input. I was wondering if there would be any performance difference.
  18. So still scouring the market for an M20J. Would love some opinions on these options: http://www.controller.com/listings/aircraft/for-sale/1417849/1981-mooney-m20j-201 http://www.controller.com/listings/aircraft/for-sale/1418221/1983-mooney-m20j-201 http://www.controller.com/listings/aircraft/for-sale/1413037/1992-mooney-m20j I've been looking for something in the 500SMOH range, but some of these have some excellent autopilot/avionics upgrades. I'm trying to determine which one should be tilting more towards the pros than the cons since there is such variety.
  19. You were right. It sold the same week I created this post…now my next finds...
  20. So so glad to see pilot uninjured and no one on the ground as well. Metal can be replaced. On a diff note, since when did Mooney make a STOL plane? He stopped that baby in record time with no floating. Bravo sir.
  21. Thanks for the details! In the market for a J and this helped immensely.
  22. I saw it but was concerned with engine not having OH in 28 years...
  23. I know everyone here knows the joy of plane shopping, especially when it is someone else's money. I've been checking all the typical websites weekly for months now to get an idea of the market, etc.... I'm looking at 80's M20J's with the requirement that they have a Garmin 430W/530W or better as I've read courtesy of you guys that it's cheaper to buy it that way than to install yourself. I'm looking for feedback about the plane and specific things to look out for. This is only one currently I have found that looks really appealing... http://www.controller.com/listings/aircraft/for-sale/1407837/1986-mooney-m20j-201 Log review stand outs: Wing reseal '01, avg 10-20hrs per year until current owner bought in 2011. Camshaft found corroded and MOH was done then. Since then it's been averaging about 50hrs/yr., GTN 750 installed '13. would love feedback from you experienced owners before I dive into these money pits. Thanks!
  24. Hahahaha I'm loving this. I really need to find a good aggressive CPA. I already pay mr Obama enough.
