Oh one of my customers did this retrofit but it was a custom job. So it can be done. Unfortunately I don't have more detail other than it can be done. 1. Do you have a parts catalogue that shows what parts are needed? 2. Can you get drawings of those parts from Mooney?

Assuming you have the flat wingtips the LED strobe on both wings will provide 180 degrees of coverage, so your rear is covered. Take a look at the 7155412 LED white position light for the tail. It does not have an LED strobe like the 500, unless you want the extra light.

The 650 has a red or green LED position light with a white LED strobe light while the 660 has that plus a rear facing white LED position light. They both have the same exact footprint, which can replace a legacy A650 fixture (nav + strobe light) 660 650

Jeff, I don't have direct experience replacing them but I had a hand (along with Mooneyspacer help) in getting that LED recog light developed. Feedback from the field is that it is easy. The wiring is non-polarity sensitive so just hook up the two wires and off you go. Bottom line is not a big deal. @jeremyc209 Assuming you have wingtip strobes that protrude from the tip of the wing, you just need a white position light on the tail. It will need to be vertically mounted so the 7155412 will do the trick. I have these in stock but the pricing goes up on them come November 1st. @Flyler no problem. It's either one or the other. Both are really nice and you will enjoy whatever you pick. The installation is pretty much the same for either.

@Flyler either the Whelen Orion 650 model or the AeroLEDs Pulsar 650 will replace that legacy position/strobe light. Both the Orion 650 and Pulsar 650 have a red or green LED position light and a white LED strobe light. They have the same mounting footprint (screw holes line up) and you can reuse your existing wiring. You do need to locate and permanently remove the strobe power supply because the LED strobe lights take 14 volt direct current power. Leaving the power supply in the electrical circuit will permanently disable the LED strobe lights. The pricing on the Orion 650 and the Pulsar 650 are going up on November 1st with the Orion 650 seeing a sizable price increase from what I can tell right now. Here are links to my website. I have an excellent inventory of these Orion 650 LED wingtip lights and I also now carry the AeroLEDs Pulsar 650 wingtip lights. The Pulsar 650 are similar to the Orion 650 (a little more expensive) but from my observation the Pulsar 650 has a more vibrant/white color to it and they are a little brighter. It is a combined LED position and strobe light. There are no known LED strobe only lights on the market amongst any brand but the Orion 500 will fit and you can cap and stow the LED position light wire so the strobe only works. Some Mooney owners have run wire back there to activate the LED position light. It is your call. There are no known LED position light bulbs for the trailing edge wingtip lights. Only halogen replacements, which is okay, because we still have those and Whelen still manufacturers them. Some Mooney owners have had varied success finding off the shelf LED replacements but in my opinion more failure than success there.

Yes it looks like that Whelen HDACF is only powering your wingtip strobe lights. Also attached is how your wing can look with it converted to LED. The position/anti-collision light is called the Orion 650E and then I have an LED recognition light that will replace that halogen lamp. That halogen lamp if left on while operating on the ground will melt your lenses.
