+1. America and the Middle East are like the only two places in the world where evolution is disputed. Quite amazing, really, that our republicans have so much in common with the Islamic fundamentalists they hate so much. And America is literally the only place where global warming is disputed. It's like "i no beter tanh sciese coz siens is gay my preecher said so so there duhhhhh" I love this because it's so true. Oh, and yeah, the gay hating family-values-preaching bible-thumping conservative hero who wants to stone gays just like the Islamic State does? She cheated on her husband, a military soldier who was deployed. Family values for the win.

You asked me who is trying to intrude into my bedroom. I answered you: republican politicians. Do you disagree with my answer or any sources? Or are you just going to shrug and say, well, republican prejudice is OK as long as it's not directed against me, because I'm a white straight Christian male so it's all peachy.

I can't imagine any pilot executing a left turn intentionally at less than 150 feet. Again, sounds like a VMC rollover situation where the left engine failed and the pilot did not maintain minimum controllable airspeed by pitching down and landing straight ahead. It's always easy to second-guess but oftentimes in emergency situations one panics and responds inappropriately. That's why it's so important for emergency maneuvers -- especially of the engine failure variety -- to be so drilled in that the response is nearly automatic.

I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. My considerable tourist dollars will go elsewhere.

The law is still on the books since the state legislature thinks removing an unconstitutional law from the register is "promoting sodomy" or something. As a result people are STILL arrested in Texas for having sex in the privacy of their bedrooms. There was an example of this a year or so ago in El Paso and other examples in Louisiana. http://www.elpasotimes.com/ci_23750549/la-city-police-arrested-men-under-sodomy-law http://annotations.azurewebsites.net/2013/05/08/state-bar-of-texas-supports-repeal-of-unconstitutional-sodomy-law/#sthash.C3e2mfNr.dpbs http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/09/virginia-anti-sodomy-laws-supreme-court-ban_n_3047489.html Ya, Christians are great, aren't they? And then they object to Sharia law, lol. Folks, please don't confuse conservatism (of the republican variety) with libertarianism. They are very different things. Conservatives want to force their way of life on everyone else. Libertarians believe in letting people live the way they want to as long as it's not hurting others. Conservative/Republican = About as big brother as you can get.

Go down the Republican list? Half of the Republican state legislatures are still trying to overturn Lawrence v. Texas and re-criminalize gay sex, at least according to the party platforms. Most southern and midwestern states have not repealed anti-sodomy statutes even though they are blatantly unconstitutional, because they want to send a message that government has the right and business to intrude into one's bedroom affairs.

I think we may just have to scrap the whole thing unless we're able to get in touch with someone who can provide exact quotes that are reasonable ahead of time. I just want the basic, no frills, airport tie-down GA transient parking. I reached out to MMPR Puerto Vallarta, same deal, 3000 pesos for the night kind of the thing including all sorts of international landing and handling fees, a $100 "terminal access" fee, etc. all sorts of nonsense like that even though I explained 20 times that we're arriving and departing domestically and not internationally. F*** it, I'll go to Canada instead. It's really unfortunate because the message that's being well-received is "we'd rather not get your business at all than have you spend thousands of pesos on fuel and taxes, and we're going to insist on charging you exorbitant rates that are not charged anywhere else in the world."
-
Not sure it would add much. A run-of-the-mill engine failure is fairly common and recoverable in a turboprop if the pilots are trained properly.
-
Here's another example of a VMC rollover in real life:
-
I think the pilot not hitting the buildings had more to do with the Vmc rollover than any controlled plane behavior. Once the plane rolled over (what is known as a minimum controllable airspeed rollover, something twin-engine pilots are very familiar with), the plane was no longer controllable.

Guys, the FBOs have confirmed again and again US Dollars. Dolares. Not pesos. They say explicitly "United States Dollars." There is no communication breakdown, they are trying to rip off gringos thinking we are all dumb or something. Joe also said his bill was in US Dollars. I'm inclined to believe him since it's still cheaper than what I was quoted but in the same ballpark.
-
LOL, I just got a quote back from "Manny Aviation Services" Mexico for MMSL: total is $815.31 US Dollars... ROFL. A $261.37 "coordination, representation & arrangements" fee, a $71 "access to plataform [sic]" fee, a $202 "handling supervision" fee, a $22 "communications fee"... I kid you not. Mexican economy must really be hurting, eh?
-
Apparently not an exchange rate problem then. Except that the "handling fee" appears to have gone up by $60. Wow... I've honestly never heard of such a thing in the states. These are like Gulfstream prices or something. I guess we will scuttle the trip, it's really not worth it to me to pay $300 bucks just to spend one night in MMSL when I can fly commercial for cheaper than the "handling fees" alone.
-
It looks like the major difference is that he wants to charge some sort of "handling" fee and the immigration fees. I'm 100% sure the immigration fees are unnecessary since we're clearing customs in MMES. No clue what the handling fee is, I have a feeling it's quite unnecessary.
-
Also, the written quote I received very clearly says $360 DOLLARS, not pesos.
-
Yes, that's exactly what I calculated. If you look at the e-mail exchange above, I said my calculations per their fees on their website came to 387 pesos or $26 USD. Technically it might be a little bit more for some of the fees if they depend on MTOW, since a Mooney M20J is about 2,700 lbs (so I guess some of the fees would be x3). And he said no, it was $360 USD, including some bogus "handling" fee of $140 USD. So I'm not sure what the deal is.
-
Sorry, not sure what you're trying to say. The airport is telling me the fees are $360 USD. Where are you getting $24 from?
-
The only thing I've ever heard my GTN 650 say is "traffic alert," and that's only because I have the GDL 88. I think that terrain warnings cost extra.

Here's the e-mail exchange: On Tue, Feb 3, 2015 at 7:37 PM, Operaciones <xxx@acsl.com.mx> wrote: Hello, Yes, the quote is in USD. Your website shows the following fees http://www.acsl.com.mx/fees.html: -Landing 60 pesos minimum -Boarding 12.20 pesos -Parking 75 peso minimum -Airport Use Fee 240.00 pesos per passenger For a total of about 387 pesos or $26 USD? So how does $26 USD turn into $360 USD? Also please keep in mind that we are clearing customs in Ensenada (MMES) and will be proceeding to Puerto Vallarta MMPR after departing, so they are both domestic. Are you sure that the figures you provided are correct? I did. But since others are writing about the "reasonable fees," there must be something I don't know or I must be talking to the wrong employee. So I'm hoping someone with first-hand knowledge can give me the skinny on what the fees are actually supposed to be?
-
Can anyone comment on this with info? I e-mailed MMSL, they said they want to charge me $360 USD for a single Mooney for one night, which includes a $4.29 landing fee, a $2 embarking/disembarking fee, a $13.42 parking fee, a $31.59 "boarding passenger" fee and a $138.82 (WTF) "handling" fee, and then they want to charge me another $170.75 in "immigration" fees even though I'm already clearing customs in Ensenada. That does not seem like "quite reasonable" fees...

Well you've got it exactly backwards. You need certified ADS-B OUT. The FAA doesn't care whether you have ADS-B in.
