  1. Looking for a quality pre-buy for a plane located in St Louis, MO. Cant seem to get the Mooney company website to work. Can someone post a list of Mooney service centers in the Midwest or recommend a good pre-buy? Thanks Matt
  2. I've been lurking for a while too, my girlfriend and I are very close to pouncing on a Mooney. Yours has a particularly nice panel for that vintage. I'm taking off in an hour to go look at a 63 E model. Your post is very inspiring!
  3. I've been wondering about steps too. Been shopping hard and noticed some planes either have the step fixed in the retracted position or entirely removed. Is that allowed with some paperwork? MM
  4. I believe that returning registration is standard now but not airworthiness certificate
  5. Cant beat Marfa Texas!
  6. Clearly I don't understand the nature of the "student" instructor relationship or other arrangements or agreements in the training scenario in which you had the gear up accident. I've been under the impression that the instructor is the command pilot in a training exercise and doesn't normally share PIC responsibility, especially during a simulated emergency orchestrated by the instructor in which the student is learning and isn't necessarily expected to perform perfectly. I only have a few hours in Mooneys and don't hold an airplane instructor rating so I don't pretend to be an expert here. In my 20 years of teaching in gliders and motorgliders I've made plenty of mistakes but I've been fortunate to avoid damaging anyone or anything. If I had, or someday do, I'd expect to take full responsibility including financial. I'd want my student to say not that they suffered humiliation and a giant insurance bill but that they once experienced a very instructive if inconvenient actual mishap thanks to a questionable instructor who at least took the credit and paid the bill.
  7. So why is lacee-lamphere (3rd poster) suffering shame humiliation embarrassment and cost if there was a seasoned high time Mooney instructor on board at the time of his incident?
  8. I'm curious about who takes credit, and responsibility, for a gear up when there is a CFI on board conducting training?
  9. In gliders we often use condom catheters, usually vented overboard. In a certified aircraft plumbing overboard can be difficult so a leg bag or other receptacle in the cabin would be acceptable and easy. Tougher issue for women.
  10. Howdy all, new guy here. Been reading for a few weeks. I restored an all metal 2 seat sailplane a few years ago. It had a bunch of surface corrosion requiring abrasion, alodine, and painting. Now I'm considering buying a 64 M20C that by all accounts is in excellent condition. I'd like some info and guidance on doing a pre-buy corrosion inspection or contact info for someone in the Iowa/Missouri area who could help me do it. Thanks! Matt
