  1. A friend is writing a research paper for school and would like to do it on the design of our Mooneys, but he has to have "academic" sources (2) to quote. Can someone suggest where he might find something about the aerodynamics of a Mooney that is citeable for a college research paper? Thanks, John

  4. I am the fortunate owner of N5767Z, a 1984 M20J I purchased back in April of this year. In looking at some of the items I would like to update in it, I have been looking at what is available in the form of STC's, paint shops, interior and the like. I have several great recommendations for the interior and paint thanks to all of you (and some suggestions on where to avoid), but the research on STC's available for my model is taking on the characteristics of a scavenger hunt. Is there anywhere that a list of currently available STC's has been collected? I have located some older STC listings (updated as recently as 2010), but some of the companies are no longer in business. Any help for this noob would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, John
  5. I came from a C-172 to my '82 M20J, and the comfort in the Mooney is great. When I unwind out of my plane, I often get surprised looks from ground crews as I am a bit over 6'5" and about 210 lbs. Getting in and out is relatively simple using some of the techniques described in earlier posts. The things my wife loves about the plane is the speed, comfort and fuel burn. She was actually the one who pushed me to move up the the Mooney. Given the chance to exprience everything that a Mooney has to offer over the time you will potentially own it, your fiance should come to love your Mooney as much as we love ours.
  6. Second-hand, I did. Or at least the owner a couple of years back. Had a reman done on the engine, ran it for a while and had oil samples done. One came back with outrageously high copper - it had apparently spun a bearing. They pulled the engine and caught it before it became a paperweight at altitude. Of course it was over 500 hours into the reman, so he just had to pay for it. But that made a believer out of me.
