  1. Looking for peaceful, and not overpriced. I looked at Sedona, as we've enjoyed it before, but the cost is prohibitive. A beach atmosphere would be perfect. I have 2 e-mails that confirm my choice of the Texas gulf islands, and we'll be going there in February. I hear that it's known as the "redneck riviera" so we'll fit right in!
  2. I was hoping for some recommendations, not a comedy routine.
  3. Merry Christmas all. I'm looking for a winter getaway somewhere in the southwestern US for a week or two in January or February. We're in our 70's, so strenuous activities are out! Canadian winters are character building, but ours are built up enough. Can anyone recommend an all-inclusive, relaxing, warm resort with great food and wine? (a runway would be nice, too) thanks,
  4. Rate of climb depends on OAT. On a hot day, I climb at 120kts indicated, and on a cold day 105kts. Through 10000 on a hot day, about 800fpm, on a cool day about 1000fpm.
  5. OK, I've had the wastegate control adjusted, and am now getting "almost" book MP. I climb at 2700RPM, full rich, engaging the turbo at 3500ft ASL to maintain 27 inches MP. My fuel flow is 17 GPH. This is according to the STC manual. Once at altitude, usually 15000 to 19000, I reduce RPM to 2600, pull the mixture back to 10 GPH, close the cowl flaps, and increase the MP back to 27 inches. The numbers on the EGT gauge mean nothing, it's just a relative pointer to show peak EGT, and mine is about 75 deg. LOP at 10 GPH. The engine temps drop from 380 CHT to 300 CHT, and the oil temp drops from 210 to 190. TAS is about 170KTS. These numbers are from my recent cross-Canada trip - 10 provinces in 30 days. I'm happy with my installation now, just wish I had more room!
  6. I recently had a Rajay turbocharger added to my 1965 M20E. It doesn't give the performance I expected. According to the STC paperwork, it should develop 27 inches MP up to FL200, then hold 25 inches MP up to FL250. Mine has a vernier "2nd throttle", with about 5 inches of movement. Only the last inch starts raising the MP, then it will hold 27 inches at full rich up to FL180, and then start decreasing with altitude. Does anyone have experience with this STC? thanks,
  7. Thanks, Cliffy, I've read your excellent article. As a climatologist, I'm aware of partial pressures, and the reason for masks and cannulas. I've been flying between 15000 and FL180 since 1995, monitoring my blood sats with a pulse oximeter. My DIY oxygen system is constant flow with Nelson flowmeters, working from medical tanks with medical regulator. This system has worked fine until now, but with the turbo coming, I'll invest in 2 good masks, and an emergency system. Thanks for the help
  8. Same here. Most of our rules are very similar. I'm just glad Transport Canada isn't as anal as the FAA about turbo STCs. I was able to buy a brand new Rajay kit for a very good price, It was unsaleable in the US because the FAA requires a signature from the original STC holder.
  9. Hi Jose, Sorry, no accent on this keyboard... I made my own oxygen system, starting with a 680 liter medical tank and medical regulator. Then I made a 2 person brass manifold with needle valves for each outlet, feeding Nelson flow meters, then to oxysaver cannulas. I use a pulse oxyimeter. We always carry 2 tanks. We live in the Coast Mountains, and 15,000 is the MEA to travel east. One tank will last for both of us to cross the Rockies both ways using cannulas. However, with the new turbo, I might need masks occasionally. Chris
  10. Hi Dan, I can't find "aerotex" anywhere. Do you mean "Aerox"? I've been regularly flying between 15,000 and FL190 with my canullas, but need masks for myself and my wife.
  11. I'm about to turbo my '65E. What are the opinions on the best mask for pilot and one passenger, for use above FL180? thanks,
  12. Hi, do you have the baggage door "hold open thingy"? thanks
  13. A company called Warren Gregoire Associates sells complete sets of leather yoke wraps. I had them on my 66E, and will put them on my (new to me) 65E. They're a bit of a pain to install, but look and feel great once they're done. Chris Strube, 1965 M20E, C-FPCK @ CYLI
  14. I was looking at this plane, and actually made an offer before finding this thread. After 2000 plus hours in my 66E, and 7 Caravans to Oshkosh, and one of the first members of the Mooney list (when it was on Compuserve), I have again found our group to be the best resource for anything Mooney. Now, if someone will point me at a decent 65 - 67 M20E, I'll be eternally grateful.
  15. Mooney seats are infinitely renewable. I did mine with hard foam inserts to form to my backside, then 3 layers(different densities) of memory-foam, covered with leather. They are very comfortable, but I wish I had more thigh support, as the seat bottoms are too short.
  16. Agree with not going to Cavalier. No good since Mike sold it. I've used Greg Silcox at Springbank. He works out of Innovative wings.
