Oil on prop of 1975 Mooney 20F

My 1975 Mooney 20F model was just flown home from St. Louis 1H0 to 08D, 6 hour journey. Upon pushing the plane into the hanger I noticed a little trickle of oil on the prop..my question is this. Do I dare fly it to my FBO 20 minutes away for repair or what could be the causes of this problem? thanks for any input or help..

Dan, Oil on theprop is probably from the seals in the hub, wipe it down and do a ground run. Run it Long enough to bring the oil up to operating temps, then cycle the prop a 1/2 dozen times or so. After you shut down look to see how much oil is on your prop. As long as it isn't running out and covering your prop you should be fine for a short hop to your FBO. make sure you check your oil quantity levels before and after the turn, and top off the oil before the flight. most prop leaks are from seals that are drying out or wearing and they start out as a slow seep that you barley notice, but your long flight may have helped you catch a problem early. Is it oil...or is it grease? Grease typically comes from herniated seals at the hub. herniated seals come from over-servicing. Oil... :-(  oil coming from your prop is more serious.

I have light beige colored grease that comes on to my prop after a flight and I keep bugging my mechanic about it because it makes me nervous and he tells me the same thing... over servicing the prop. I only have 120 hours on my prop. 1968 M20F
