So after remedying an Exhaust clamp dilemma today with the help of a local A&P hanging around the field, I went for my afternoon joy-ride. At his suggestion, when I returned, I opened my access panel to check the clamp and bolt that was replaced. Upon doing so, I noticed something that I had not seen before. There was a black substance at various intervals on the joinining points between the right mag, the vacuum pump, and the oil sump in a few places on the engine. At a glance I thought it was oil as it looked like drippage (it was rounded but not going any further), but then when I touched it (while the engine was freshly warm) it was liquid then cooled to a wax-like substance on my finger. Very hard to remove from my hand after this. I’m guessing it’s not oil, as it wasn’t runny, and there was no staining as far as I could see inside of the cowling. can anyone offer any insight as to what it may be? Oil, Sealant, dirt and glue....I'm open to knowledge.I know at my November Annual, there were new crank seals, oil sump, oil pump, vacuum pump and mag gaskets installed, so I can only hope that it is not leaking this soon. I also know that in the past 25hrs of flight, I’ve only had to add approximately 2 quarts of oil, and it is currently holding at 6.5Quarts after my 2.5 hours of flight this weekend. Oil pressure is great, and there’s nothing on the belly of the plane. I can take pics tomorrow when I go to the airport, if anyone is interested in seeing it.Warmest Regards,Abe L.
