Hi all, I'm new to the family, I just bought a 74 m20f that is stock. Like any bird of this vintage, you have to do some work. I'm trying hard not to get carried away. My transponder is not working. Do I fix it, or replace it for the 2020 compliance, or replace it and add a few other things and if so what items should I upgrade. I'm torn between getting it done economically vs getting a bunch of things done while the panel is open. Labor will probably cheaper if they don't take the panel apart every year . part 2 Does anybody have experience with Islip Avionics or Ventura Avionics? I will probably choose one of these due to location quality of work? customer service? turnaround time? price? thanks in advance for your input Homefree

Just a quick compliment to my new (new to me) mechanic. This is our second annual and second year with the plane in our ownership. Our previous mechanic is a great guy personally, but his services have downgraded considerably so we decided to find someone else. My fears of having a new set of eyes looking at the plane were unfounded. Lance Bartels is very detailed oriented but wont empty your wallet without talking to you first on all issues and let you decide - without pressure to sell you something. I just had our annual done and was pleasantly surprised on the bill. I expected it to be double. He charges $1200 for the annual inspection, plus parts. Lance and his other mechanic Dakota are top notch in my book. Their hourly prices are very very reasonable ($50 hr). This is a small town airport (KSER) but the airport itself is HUGE!! LOL Used to be a military training field during WW2. How ironic that his name is Lance and his partner is Dakota (Yes they also work on Pipers!!) I would recommend Lance to anyone in the area. www.cherryhillaviation.com Phone: 812-322-6762 -Vic

I'm in the process of buying a Mooney located in the Kansas City area. What is a good shop for the pre-buy inspection?
