My cousin's Mooney M20D went down near Revekstoke BC, Canada, on November 25, 2017. The military has stopped the search and the family is left to do everything we can to bring my cousin (the pilot) and his girlfriend home. We are hearing mixed stories about whether or not a magnetometer may help locate the aircraft. I have read that the Mooney did have steel components. I am looking for opinions regarding the viability of this search option. We have a couple of high probability search areas that we are interested in using this equipment on, if we can get confirmation that search efforts as such are worth while. Rotary and fixed wing, visual searches, haven't been helpful. The high probability areas have been defined using cell phone pings, foreflight information, and last known radar position. Thanks in advance for your insight.

Craig, I've found that I can't search the forums for any parameter less than 4 characters. Is this something to thwart spam-bots or other nefarious internet entities or maybe it would return too many entries and choke the web server? Can it be changed so we can search for 3 character parameters? I was looking for a thread on the Garmin 696 but have not been able to find it or any other thread with "696" in it. Thanks, Dave

The new site has some search issues. I discovered these the past 2 days while trying to research the Hartzell "B" hub and window tint colors. 1. Search for the word "hub" and you'll get an error message telling you that words less then 4-characters long are invalid. Accordingly...a search for "propeller hub" returns results only for "propeller" since the word "hub" (being less than 4 characters) is ignored. I think 4-characters is too long. There are plenty of 3-letter words of a technical nature that one might use in a search string. (eg. hub, pin, die, fee, tig, etc) 2. Sometimes the 4-character rule is misapplied and certain words are not-allowed. Apparently the word "color" is not allowed. Searching for "window color" or "paint color" returns results for "window" and "paint" respectively. Simply search for "color" and one is told that the word is not allowed.
