Hey all, I am looking at purchasing my first Retract, Variable Pitch prop airplane and I am looking for feedback in regards to operating cost... I live in Canada and will do a lot of Mountain Flying (Rocky Mountains) and was wondering what the true, average operating cost is for a Mooney or Similar. I've already got my insurance quote which came in at just under CAN$1700/year. Not bad considering all my 300Hr TT is in a Cessna 172..., The quote is subject to 10hr of dual instructions... I am curious on additional cost... Annual, Engine Reserve, 100hr inspections, etc... Has anyone experience in operating one out of a grass strip? Mountain Flying? I am interested in some current data, not something from 5, 10 or more years ago... Thanks in advance. Andreas

I routinely fly to two airports in my J. The trip takes about 30 gallons. At one airport the gas is about one dollar cheaper than the other airport. Here is my question: Is it cheaper to fill the tanks to the brim with cheaper gas but have less a less efficient flight with the unneeded full tanks? Or is it cheaper to get just the amount of gas needed at each airport regardless that the one airport is so much more expensive and have a more efficient flight. Or in other words, I have to add a little fuel no matter what at the expensive airport to have a reserve, but how much should I add at the cheap airport? Or still in other words, how much does it cost to carry around extra fuel that you don't need?

Could some rocket owners share some data on maintenance costs per year (annual and otherwise), please? I am starting to look for a 252, rocket or bravo with tks. There are certainly more bravos with tks, but the rocket is certainly top on my list... Thanks in advance
