Last winter I replaced my VSI in my panel by a smaller one. Needed the 3" space for a CDI. The one removed is a Bendix MFR TYPE NO. 1634-1X-A1
A potential buyer (who is on this forum) asked me if it is TSO'd. I checked the TSO database and here is what comes-up. The one I have in hand is not listed but very close number. Is it possible that this one is part of the equipment list of my aircraft? (1965 M20C) I looked but could not find any instruments listed in my books. I absolutely want to make sure if I sell it that the new owner will be able to legally put this in his aircraft. What are the options? Thanks Yves

My opinion is that some service providers think pilots are rich and have no budget limits which is not true. When you have $100 available, when you spent it all, there is no more. This means you have to make choices. By seeking lower rates for anything, you increase your options. Sometimes you can make savings without much effort... here is an example: Last year on our way to Oshkosh, we decided to stop in Sarnia Ontario for the night. As we arrive to a Motel at the counter the motel rep gave us the pricing for the night... I think it was $109 or so. I then ask, can I get a discount? He sais... are you CAA? I said no... but I said I am a pilot... he looked in his book and then said... would this been considered hospitality? I SAID YES Of course... this gave us a 20% discount on the room.
If you just pay without asking questions, they have no incentive to lower the rates. My wife is all the opposite. She always pays without asking any questions. I kind of feel like I need to compensate for that behavior somehow so we get even...

Mike, We can't really wax that tent so I think we shall stop hijacking this thread.
Good night... working tomorrow.

That is like finding a very small piece of hay in a very large stack lf needles. How aboot one of you guys fly over and pick me up at my parking lol
Wait a minute Mike... we are not talking about a camping tent here. OK... you New-Yorkers want it all ready for you... no work needed... key in hand, ready to eat... right? Fine... here is last years' tent picture... to help you a little... if you can't discriminate between that and a camping tent you ought to get a new pair of glasses... cheers...

For those wondering where to find the Mooney Caravan tent: It will be somewhere within the red area. This is where it was last year actually. If you go there and cannot find it, find any Caravan: Beech, Cessna or Pipers and ask them... they will know where we are.

Are you serious? I've actually been putting off Oshkosh forever. This'll be my first one in 10 years of aviating. First I didn't own a plane so I didn't want to go. Then I got my Mooney but felt too inexperienced, then had overlapping commitments. This is the first time I feel reasonably prepared enough to be able to attend but have been worried about that FISK arrival. You really think it isn't as bad as the Hudson? I fly that all the time. But originally I was asking how I'll find the Mooney tent or Caravan tent in the midst of everything at Osh.
Sorry for stealing the thread. It was getting boring anyway
OK Mike, The Mooney Caravan Tent shall be located somewhere within the red area...there will be some banners with the Mooney name.

Ok cool. It's my first time going to Oshkosh. Hope I can figure out how to get around and find yas.
On my previous message I referred to the Mooney tent... I meant the Mooney Caravan tent! Mooney (the company) will also have a tent. Ours will be north 40. I'll post a map next time I get on the computer.

Yes Mike, I will be there from Sunday to Thursday. I am part of the Mooney caravan. If you come to the Mooney Caravan tent on Monday at 6PM, a bunch of MooneySpacers will show up there to socialize. Looking forward to see you. There is another thread that lists all Mooney events during the week.Yves, you're going? What days are you going to be there? I'm planning to pop in for just Mon-Weds

The current plan is to do the Airventure Cup from Mitchell (working on that elusive 201 mph air race speed here's to hoping a eastbound race tailwinds will help!) - which finishes at osh on Sunday.
We are planning on being there the better part of the week. The air racers get air show center parking (I know right!) but you can't camp there so they are still working out where we will park - likely we will be back to the N40, but there is actually a chance they will put us with the other race support folks in home built. With the way our plane looks right now with the changes we have made pre- paint shop, it almost qualifies
This is all pending weather of course...
I found the air race web site. It is not clear what time you will arrive in KOSH is you decide to keep going after Wausau. The Caravan scheduled arrival is 11:00 AM on Sunday. I guess the faster you arrive after your race, the closer you will be able to camp to the Caravan folks, since they keep filling the camping spots.

Hopefully we'll get to meet some folks there!
Becca, what day are you coming to KOSH?

Mike, did you check your maintenance logs and find out when was the last time the mags were inspected? The recommendation is every 500 hours.

CNN just reported that the flight took the northern route due to severe thunderstorms to the south and that Malaysia had been using the southern route all along - except for that day due to weather.
You can see this flight path here: http://flightaware.com/live/flight/MAS17/history/20140717/1000Z/EHAM/WMKK
You can compare with the path for other days. They did indeed fly a more northernly route on that day but looking at the different days, we can see that the were going across most of Ukraine on most flights.

Sacrebleu!!! Yves, it's a lot less $$$ What are your Total time and Mooney time?
Personnally, I prefer $2mil liability, I know it doesn't add that much to the premium (+/- $100)
PIC = 512 hours total. About 300 on Mooney
I am with Marsh, dealing with the Montreal Office.

Clarence, I was speaking about your RV rate, not the Piper. My aircraft has been insured with the same broker for years. When I acquired it two years ago, I kept the same company to make things simple. Upon renewal last summer, I did ask for a quote from another broker after they subsidized a tent and meal at a local airshow. When I met the vice-president I promised I would ask for a quote when I would renew my insurance.
What a surprise to see that their quote was about $500 less per year than the current broker. I decided to check with COPA, EAA etc and realized that if you stay with the same broker for several years, they do not have any incentive to try to make you save money.
I did renew recently, did ask for another quote elsewhere (since the premium went up, but not in a significant manner) and they are still a few hundreads lower than the other quote.

Clarence and Drapo, I think you both pay too much. I have 1M gold plan, $65K hull value. $1400

When I needed to replace mine due to a small crack, the wife insisted on getting a polished one. Any idea why women prefer polished spinners?

I plan on attending the social gathering and Mooney events. My schedule didn't allow me to make the Formation Clinic in Texas. I guess that excludes us from the Caravan BBQ?
I am arriving OSH Thursday morning. I will try to capture video of the Caravan arrival on Sunday.
Larry, do you have an answer for moodychief question?

We do have something planned for the Mooneyspace forum posters:
6:00 pm - MooneySpace Forum Social Gathering - North 40 Mooney HQ Tent Sponsored by Mooney
Who are planning to join?

35 Mooneys to fly to KOSH today
in Mooney Caravan
Posted
For anyone that is picture candy and are at Oshkosh today, planning is well underway for the mass departure from KMSN and mass arrival at KOSH on today. Our arrival time is supposed to be around 11:00 local. I will if I can post updates here. I have the honour of flying the last group, flying wing with Larry and shall be the last Mooney to land just before the tail aircraft from that group unless there are last minutes changes.
Tens of Mooneys went out yesterday from Madison do formation practice runs. today is the big day.
See you all in Oshkosh.
