  1. What type of Mooney's can do 1,000 nm with reserves left over, 3 passengers 200lbs each and a 100lb box (total carry weight 700 pounds). With one fuel stop. Thank you
  2. George, Thank you for the previous post, that is good stuff. Is there anything else? For the record I'm not buying a mooney right away but I want to be ready when the time comes.
  3. This could've been a PM but I just wanted everyone to know that I spoke to Seth on the phone and he has a WEALTH of information for a newbie like myself. Very knowledgeable and also an all around nice guy, great to talk to. Thanks Seth for giving me a few mins of your time to speak about Mooney's After the family is gone I will go and check out a few Mooney's local and then I will let you know what I find. Thanks!
  4. Yes, I have the same problem too, I just posted a long "Book like" response and it appeared within the preview but the sender didn't recieve it. He just recieved what they wrote. Just wanted to let everyone know what is going on Thanks for all that you do!!
  5. This may be a dumb question, (Sorry about that) but what does Corrosion look like on a Mooney? Are there certain spots on the plane that I should keep an extra watch out for? I do have Airplane fever but I have never been in a Mooney as of yet and I don't have my license yet. I'm going to take my time with it but be steady in my progress. I'm in Saint Petersburg Florida, can you go to a place, (Like a dealer) and sit in one to see what it looks like in real life? I'm not purchasing right away I just want to get a feel for one to see if comfortable. Thank you
  6. Dave, That is good stuff, thank you!!
  7. When planning a trip and you set up your Flight plan how do you do it? Can you do it all online? Thank you
  8. When purchasing a used Mooney what are 10 things you look for to make sure it's a good plane to buy? Thank you
  9. I have to hand it to all of the people that post photos of there experiences flying on this site. I went though ALL of them and they are amazing. Can't wait to post my own photos one of these days!!
  10. jlunseth Thank you that was good stuff!! The best I have read so far about Mooneys
  11. Hello, I just wanted to know are there any books and/or websites out there that give you detailed information about the Mooney, (Technical Specs instrument panel, parts..etc) similar to a car owners manual/maintenance book. I'm a tech person at heart and I like specs. Thank you!
  12. Seth, Thank you for all of that information. For some reason this website wasn't posting my responses so my apologies for not responding sooner. I will PM you tonight with my contact info. Thank you
  13. On average what would be around the amount of hours on an engine that you would be looking at a replacement? The reason why I asked is because there are some pre owned Mooney's that are attractive but have a lot of flying hours. (1,500 Hours). Thank you
  14. Hello, if I wanted to purchase a Mooney to carry 4 adult passengers from Saint Petersburg Fl (PIE) to New York (HPN) with one Fuel stop and get there under 10 hours which type of Mooney would I buy? I ask this question because I'm considering on purchasing a Mooney once I get my license which I am currently working on. Thank you
  15. Quote: RJBrown The safest airplane is the one with the safest pilot. That is why you hear of so many Cirrus crashes. They tout their "saftey" features to an certain demographic who buy them and promptly exceed their own abilities as a pilot hoping the Cirrus will save them. Beech Bonanzas used to be called "Doctor Killers" for similar pilot related issues. To answer you title question. Yes they are. When flown properly by a conservative, current and well trained pilot. The biggest variable is pilot attitude.

  17. Quote: 201er It almost doesn't matter considering the vast majority of accidents are considered "pilot error." If you eliminate the pilot, they're all safe airplanes!
  18. This might be a newbie question but I was wondering if Mooney's are among the safest planes to fly in it's class compared to other airplanes. I tend to hear more about Cirrus planes crashing these days.
  19. I reside in Saint Petersburg FL. I moved here from Seattle Washington. I always had a desire to learn how to fly but I was too scared to try. I don't know where the desire came from because I don't really know anyone who flys. I went up on an intro and now I am hooked. I don't have my pilots license so I will start there. I was on another pilots website and one of the members suggested that I would try a Mooney because I'm fairly tall (If you call 6 2 tall) and I am pretty wide in the shoulders it would be the perfect plane to fly long distances. I would like to go into a dealer and sit in one to see how comfortable it is. Although I enjoyed the intro flight in a Cessna 172 I was a bit cramped and the instructor didn't appreciate rubbing shoulders with me. Thank you for the well wishes, this site has some awesome members.
  20. I saw this you tube video of a couple that flew over the North Atlantic in a Mooney. What is the furthest you have ever flown in a Mooney, (With or without multiple stops).
  21. Quote: DaV8or Welcome to MooneySpace! Good choice in aircraft interest. The whole "will I fit" question can only be answered by actually sitting in one. The good news is, you are located in Mooney country. It should be easy to get help from either someone here, or a Mooney dealer/service center near you. There are plenty in FL. I think Parker might be able to help.
  22. Quote: Mazerbase I'm pretty sure you can find a member of this group near you that would be willing to let you at least sit in one.
  23. I know that might be a bit of a stretch but has anyone learned how to fly in a Mooney instead of a Cessna 172?
