  1. Any one out there have the flight manual supplement for the M20 turbo normalized STC on a Mooney M20F?
  2. There are hundreds of high-shear pins in the Mooney spar. They can be easy to install but you have to remember one very important thing. These are a precise press fit. Any hole that a high-shear pin falls into is not acceptable. These pins need to be drilled undersize, then reamed to an interference fit. If they are not a press-fit installation, they wont hold. Your spar will start to smoke over time and the joint will weaken. Not good. make sure your mechanic uses a jig to drill the hole perfectly straight, then ream to fit. If the pin goes in at an angle, its useless too.
  3. I may have spoken too soon, and/or misunderstood the topic. Mouse Milk is the best penetrant and lubricant I have ever used for moving parts like wastegates etc in an exhaust system. However, the slip joints are best lubed upon installation with a good anti-seize. Simply coat the area slipped together. This is not always done however. So...mouse milk will help get them apart.
  4. Use Mouse Milk. Its a better penetrant and lubricant. Anti-sieze compounds wont lube or penetrate as well.
  5. Yes, Mouse Milk is the best. It will penetrate into the wastegate valve very well. It has a super high heat rating. Anti-sieze compounds work well for preventing seizure of bolts, but dont lubricate or penetrate as well.
  6. Sorry everyone. I am new to the forum thing. I was not sure it is appropriate to mention that I am a business. It is not my intention to advertise here. If you want to know, yes, we are FFM in VNC. After 20+ years in VNC, I can still learn a lot from the general public and other Mooney owners. Sometimes after seeing crazy things time and time again, I feel I should say something. Fuel tanks are an art. Our specialist would like to do nothing more than kick back on his reclining creeper and reseal tanks. He's crazy, but darned good.
  7. A qualified mechanic is someone that is experienced in the task at hand. My lead fuel tank guy is not an A&P, but has been fixing, stripping and resealing tanks for 20 years. He is one of the best I've worked with.
  8. We are a MSC in SW Florida. We have been resealing tanks for many years, successfully. Lots of times we get them after attempts by others, which usually makes things worse. I have a tank in here now that looks more like a bladder. Also, IMO, stay away from bladders. They too are going to fail, and it's sacrilegious to do that to a Mooney (LOL). A properly stripped and resealed tank will probably last longer than a bladder, and it's cheaper.
  9. Yes, it can be replaced very easily. You just need the right tools. A good shop can do this for you.
  10. PLEASE let only qualified mechanics work on your tanks! We are seeing too many unsuccesful repairs being made that are only making things worse. NEVER let anyone tell you that it is OK to seal the outside of the tank. This is a sign that they do not know what they are doing. We are seeing complete covering of interior surfaces, making the tank look more like a bladder. Sump drains are being covered up alowing water to reach depths of 1/2" before it will drain. Also, flow holes in ribs being covered allowing large amounts of water entrapment. Wrong sealants, wrong processes, wrong applications......
  11. To all Mooney owners out there, please be advised! Mooney Mart is NOT a MSC, never has been, never will be. Please dont confuse them with the MSC in Venice, FL. Mooney Mart is in SRQ now. They were in VNC but were kicked out for a few reasons. MM also laid off its two mechanics and has multiple lawsuits pending. Many unhappy customers are now trying to move their planes to VNC until they can come get them.
