  2. Hey guys, Bill the repo man here, mooney lover, IA mechanic, and pilot. I have worked as a tech at mooney repair facilities for 15 years of my life I have had 201's 231's a great ovation, sigh, and a bravo or two. I just repossessed a 2005 Bravo gx with 420 hrs. Figure I would let the mooney guys know before I blast it out to the world for sale. looking for bids/offers high 2's. happy holidays Bill O'Brien airguy55@hotmail.com
  3. Yes below the door panel right foward of the rear seats. and same position oppisite side. I have also seen the fuel selector oring leak and make a smell, but 95% of the time its the sending units. You can also use baby powder and blow it onto the area to see if it is leaking. It will get a blue tint. B
  4. Good god, the fuel leak problem. I have done at least 15 complete strip and seals and more "top coats" Then I care to remember. My shop had the task of fixing alot of new mooneys that had a leak under the foward wing walk on one particular screw. It seems when you enter your mooney, you end up with one foot with all your weight on the wing walk. right under your foot is a panel that has lots of screws and a brace that has 4 more screws holding it up. the inboard screws always leaked. we would reseal this panel and replace the foward wing walk leaving a mismatched color. HINT. tape off your entire wing walk area and spray paint it semi-gloss black. It wil look brand new. Almost a must at the annual if the plane is left outside. I digress. If your sealant is good and there is only a seep, have your shop drain the tanks remove panels and coat the entire area with 1005L top coat compound. (Mooney uses this stuff too) This has saved many total strip and reseal jobs. If the sealant has been "patched" and they put new sealant on top of old, decaying sealant, there is no help and a total reseal is the way to go. This is not to be performed by the novice as the job is horrible and the technician will hate you. I have gotten rid of many seeps by top coating with the 1005l as it is very thin compared to the 1422 sealant, and I have even thined it out with MEK and sprayed it on with a gun and once even a formula 409 bottle. I use to maintain the Embry Riddle fleet of Mooneys and we saw the most used highest time been thru hell and back flight training Mooneys out there. We came up with a few AD's lots of SB's and alot of good ideas along the way. we did 100 hrs every 14 days on average. Best flight training airplane out there, except for the cowling fasteners wearing thru the cowlings.
  5. I have found that the fuel sending unit gasket is a huge creator of in cabin fuel smells, once again no real blue stains on the gasket but fill the plane up, remove side panels and spray dye penetrant developer around the sending unit. This is how I found the leak, it will slowly turn light blue. change gaskets and new rubber washers under screws walla.
  6. I appreciate the info about the mapa group and will contact them in the morning. I have talked with Barron Thomas about the plane. He said he will be more then willing to copy the info but the owner of the plane must supply him with conformation of the STC being paid for. The owner has a reciept for upwards of 85 thousand that he paid for the conversions but does not have a specific reciept for the stc due to the fact that it was over 5 years ago and the hangar collapsed on his plane. All records from the shop were destroyed, the plane was repaired at another facility, paid for by the insurance company and now sits. This is an assignment by the insurance company just trying to help the guy out. anyway, I have a call or two to make and try to get some info. I was hoping to find one of the owners of a conversion. Glad I have the Ovation, I just took a full of pride 23 year 201 owner for a ride in her and now he wants an Ovation. And I want an Acclaim. Jeez this never ends. I remember when the 231 was the cats az. When are we gonna turbo normalize the Ovation?? I hate to think I am missing 50 Knots.
  7. Hey gang, mane is Billy, A&P IA and have worked at mooney repair centers my whole career. I am now a repossession agent for aircraft and an insurance adjuster. I have owned a 231 and now have a great Ovation with A/c 530 496 ect. Love the planes. I have an interesting claim on a Porsche mooney. The guy had all the mods done to convert it to a 550, with the speed brakes, long range tanks ect. The hangar fell on the plane back in 04-05, the plane was repaired painted and has now been sitting because he cant get the manuals for the 550 conversion. we have all the stc's but he is missing the poh suppliment, the installation drawings and parts lists for the conversion of the engine. The insurance company wants to see this guy fly again as it has been 5 years since he has flown his plane. I am looking for a Porsche owner that has had the conversion to copy the info for him so we can get the plane signed off. Repeated attempts to get the info from the stc holder (who is now out of business) produced no results. Willing to pay for the time and copies of course. Any help is appreaciated.
