  1. Jason, I attended Jerry's class two years ago and found it to be quite valuable. You take away a notebook of mx manual excerpts with some of the more common items that need to be addressed. I leave this notebook in the plane and I use it just about every time I open a toolbox near the plane. I'm somewhat considering upgrading to a K model so I would certainly be interested in learning a little bit about them beforehand. Scott
  2. Quote: 67M20F Ok I have heard to do your runup at 1800, and full power, we are only talking about leaning, I fly out of fields that are above 5500 ft, do you lean out at 1800 or 2100 or full power(not sure that I will get more out of the motor but it's been a month since I have flown, much more than I like), I am climbing to 10.5-11.5-12.5K, I have heard to run at peak EGT, heard to run at 50 ROP, heard 50 LOP, Mooney's are slick don't want to ruin all of that. I only have about 200hrs in airframe, and would like to know what the best way to run this motor and airframe! NOT A LOP QUESTION! NOT WANTING TO RUN LOP. NEED LOT MORE HRS!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. George, count me in! The down side is that there's a mountain flying course in Denver that same weekend that KSMooniac and I were planning to attend, but I'm sure they hold more than one class per year. Any chance Tom will be back from deployment during that time? I've chatted with him a couple times about E models, and would really like to get him to help with the rigging on my plane.
  4. Well, I've already got the LP windows and vent window...all I need is the latch and hinges. LP makes one for Piper that I can get for $49 through Airparts, but I might just see how well mine clean up before spending any more money. It's not an obscene amount of money in absolute dollars, but for two plastic hinges and a plastic latch, it's still a bit absurd. More so that Aircraft Spruce gets $124 for them, and Great Lakes' Beech kit is $185 for the same thing. This "rich aircraft owner" concept is really starting to hurt!
  5. George, I called LP directly and they said they don't have anything for Mooney at all. They do make them for Piper and Beechcraft...was yours the Piper part, by chance? Aircraft Spruce's part says "Piper and Mooney", but they don't say that it's an LP product. Unless I find something slick and cheap in the next week or so, I'll probably just try blast and paint my old ones. PS - George, I'm having my seats reupholstered right now and I printed off a picture of your interior as the model to copy. The front seats will be sculpted entirely out of the Confor Foam, but the back seat will just be standard aircraft seat foam. I'm in the process of cutting out some nice new wool carpet on the living room floor tonight too.
  6. Those of you who have replaced windows yourselves....what kind of hinge did you use for the vent window? My old hinges are cruddy and rusty, don't want to reuse them. Aircraft Spruce sells a "Piper and Mooney" hinge kit for $124. Give me a freakin break. They're plastic hinges. LP Aero does not offer a hinge kit for Mooney specifically, but using their Piper part number, I can get that for $49 through Air Parts Co locally. Might actually be the same one that Spruce sells for more than twice the price? Are there any suitable home grown hinge/latch recommendations? The windows are stock thickness LP Aero windows, so there's a 1/8" step from window surface to vent window surface, necessitating an offset hinge line (or a washer/filler).
  7. Craig, Can we get some region-specific forums for posting fly-ins and lunch gathering type info? A couple of us are trying to coordinate a club/group in the Kansas area. ...or maybe just a single forum for $100 hamburgers.
  8. You're probably right, Jim. With the gear up, the wheels hang slightly downward to the back, putting the calipers out there in the wind. If the calipers are moved forward, they would go further up into the wheel well.
  9. Lood, I must confess, I'm in the same boat. I have no idea how it's supposed to work, but there are no new parts involved. I should have received the paperwork from LASAR on Friday, but there was an envelope mix-up in the shipping department. I got someone's M20TN keys instead. Maybe by next weekend...
  10. I ordered the brake STC from LASAR yesterday...if it gets here by the weekend, I will try to get it installed and signed off before the weekend is out and post some pics.
  11. During my recent (first) owner-assist annual, I realized how much the brake calipers really hang out in the breeze on my E and started thinking about the caliper reversal STC. Who owns that...LASAR? Does it work? Another option - is there such a thing as an STC to add inner gear doors that have the fairing over the brakes like the J+ models? Comparing mine to a hangar neighbor's J, it looks like the main door pushrod geometry is slightly different, but the parts look the same. Perhaps it could be as easy as simply installing the J parts on there with little or no modification? Thanks!
  12. I too am looking for panel light options. I still have the old style panel with the crappy plastic overlay, with post lights attached to the plastic, not the panel itself. It's awful. I would like to ditch the post lights and go to the NuLite ring lights, as this also gives me future flexibility when I convert my panel to a 201 style, as I can continue to use the NuLites and not lose that investment. I also plan to fabricate my own overhead panel and console, and ditch the crappy old spot lights and rheostats in favor of a solid state dimmer (compatible with the NuLites). Another option, though not sure if it would fly with the FSDO, is a strip LED under the glareshield, illuminating the entire panel.
  13. I'm planning to install new windows in my E in the next couple of weeks. What kind of cure time can I expect to see at 40 degrees (F)? I'd like to knock it out in a weekend if possible, but I have a 3rd-hand report of it taking a week or two to cure on another guy's plane...and that was in summer. Thanks!
  14. Jackhole. A quick survey of other posters reveals I'm not the only one. Perhaps Mooniac58 can change the software to NOT automatically post a gender if one isn't selected in the drop down box. I'm not in the habit of going through all the menus....
