  1. The analog fuel gauges don’t seem to be reading well, nor do the wing sight gauges on the ground. Fortunately, the Shadin does as it was right when I topped off last time, thinking I would only be filling to 100 vs my full 118. Board insights behind this & solutions? Cheers,
  2. Thanks! Know all of that, just keep flaring just a smidge high and dropping it in from around a foot. Just enough so the nose wheel taps as part of the bounce and forced to wait and hold until it settles back on the mains. I just give myself minimum runway lengths, 4000’ seems to be a good number for now, while I sort it out. Been 31 years since I had a similar sight picture in a F.
  3. Picked up my new baby over the weekend. ‘95 Bravo, 1900TT, 10 SFOH, 10SNP. Geared up in 2021 & fresh off those repairs. Has a KFC150/297, a G600, just added an Avidyne 440/540 stack, and yes she needs a modern Engine Monitor sooner rather than later. The current AMU bill is at 24 and another 18 + labor is planned after the Maxwell’s clean up the pre-buy items. Needs paint & carpet, but the seats are in decent shape. Still working on the flare, I’m used to being 60’ in the air when the mains touch, not 2’.
  4. Lets see if it works now? Yup, either they fixed it, or it likes me now....
  5. Thanks. Unfortunately, it seems to be broken when I try to create the map. Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function exec() in /home/visited3/public_html/view-map.php:143 Stack trace: #0 {main} thrown in /home/visited3/public_html/view-map.php on line 143
  6. Total thread creep, but where do you get the US maps for states you've landed in at? The Google was not my friend...
  7. Going through the process myself now, I'll add that I made up a spreadsheet of all the ones on the market I was interested in and pulled their value from Vref, then calculated their cost based on if the engine was 0 SMOH and had all the stuff I wanted to put in it added in, what my total cost would be. After wading through roughly two dozen of various makes and models, I could break down a plane in under 15 minutes. I took a look at 3, one was a Garrison Encore upgrade with a 20 year old damage history, that was complicated, but probably sound. I called back a few days later after satisfying myself that the DH was probably ok, to find it had landed a full price offer and was in prebuy, and has probably closed by now. The second was a Bravo that had 2 cylinders replaced within 600 hours, and my prebuy found a 3rd with a burnt exhaust valve within 100 more hours and I walked away from that one. I finally discovered the one, I'll probably own by Tuesday and was able to move on it very fast because I'd learned so much from what I'd done above. Like Lance and other's have said. Do your homework, line up your ducks and be ready to pounce on the one you find that meets your mission requirements. Once mine is final, I'll give the rest of her story, but from what I'm seeing, I'm quite content with the deal I got.
  8. Can’t beat the free logbook review. Theirs tracked well with what I saw, but it was good to have a backup set of eyes.
  9. No interest because it's not STC'd, and no STC because there is no interest..... hmmm I get that the STC cost's money but what he's really saying is they don't think they'll get interest even after they put the money in the STC.
  10. I quit looking at 231's because I did not wish to deal with, excuse me, learn the nuances of managing the 231's turbo setup. I'm an airline pilot, and prefer as much "set and forget" as my wallet allows for. More than likely, I've gone from the frying pan to the fire, as I skipped the 252's and went straight for a TLS-Bravo, which has it's own set of quirks to deal with. I hope to be back on here in a month or so vacuuming up all the Bravo tips I can find.... Good Luck!
  11. Flushing out my due diligence and building my upgrade wish list budget. Ya, it's a KFC 150 in there now, but as I mentioned above, over equipping is a hallmark of my crowd. Right now the total upgrade estimate is around $50k. Might all happen next month, or next few years, but I'm getting the first draft going. Stumbled across a co-worker that does Avionics as a side gig, and comparing notes from here to there. So far the drift back towards Garmin is becoming noticeable as he's been able to articulate how some of this stuff integrates, and where the bucks (AMU's?) can be saved.
  12. It might be an airline pilot thing. Most of my buddies, load up their private birds to take on all the stuff we simply fly over in the big jets. If they ever have to couple up an approach to mins in the personal bird, it's a planning failure for them, but then just executed. I decided to not pay for a 2nd engine that comes with a T310R/340A/58TC/58P and I'm finding a few less barrels to burn money in vs the twins. As it stands, I should be able to kit out my M20M for around $250k, which is the plane, and everything but fresh paint, and over 1000 hours left to TBO. I guess the short answer to your question is, we'd rather not, but also rather not divert unless absolutely necessary. In my case I'll be commuting to work in mine, so the more things I can do to give myself the best chance with what I've got, the better. And then there is that old saying that the battle plan rarely survives first contact.... :-)
  13. It seems so, but the 3100 is not yet STC'd for the Mooney's yet, last I looked yesterday.
  14. Ya, new is steep. I’m looking at Reman Aspen’s to ease the pain some, so if I can co that route with everything else as well, might work out. The 440/540 stack I bought are factory remans with a new warranty.
  15. Probably not new news here, but I just discovered that the Stec55x is also an option. Anyone using one of these as your Autopilot and how do you like it?
  16. Thanks. I’ll keep that in mind for next time.
  17. Any updates on how well the 230 works and plays well with an Avidyne 440/540 combo & Aspen PFD/MFD’s. I’m interested in one.
  18. When I searched last night, this one did not come up. Hopefully there are some updates to it. Thanks.
  19. Planning some panel upgrades for an M20M and see the options are rather limited. I've got the Avidyne 440/540 combo, currently the KFC150 with Altitude/V/S select. Looking at the AeroCruze 230 as it appears to be only one of two certified for the M20's Looking at Aspen's maybe a 1000/500 combo as well. Any feedback on these?
  20. Thanks. Seem to be getting lucky on this one so far. I had to find a different one since the subject of this one went under contract as I was writing the OP and wrapping up my due diligence before making an offer. The replacement will be an M20M, an early A, with the engine fix. Also happens to come with a maintenance policy from the owner before the seller, which still has life in it. I'll have a lot of hours left to burn on it after taking possession. No broker involved, at an MSC now getting the prebuy. About the only affiliation with the deal, is that I learned the seller had his pre-buy done here also, but the rest of the work he had done closer to home. As I won't be able to be present for the inspection myself, the rep at the MSC and I took a good look at the plane and logbooks before I left them a check. I was curious as to the answer to the question, vs having a "bad" feeling, because I have a co-worker, that owned his own crop-duster service, has purchased a number of planes, is an A&P also and had no issues using the sellers mechanic, especially a bigger shop to do the inspections as he felt their repudiation was on the line to do it right anyway. However, he's not a Mooney guy so I thought I'd also throw it out to the space. Cheers,
  21. What are the thoughts of the group of getting a pre-buy inspection done by the same muni service center that is brokering the airplane? Pros and cons. Thanks in advance.
