PM sent! Would love to meet some fellow Mooney owners.

@LANCECASPER you are both, a gentleman AND a scholar. After tightening up the door latch, I could still see a bit of daylight through the door jam when closed. I applied the foam tape as you described, then took her up with the CO monitor. 0-5 ppm! And the door was quiet, no more whistling. Looked to me like you (or someone else) had already done this to 794RS because I scraped off some old foam tape left in a few spots around the bottom of the door frame.

Thanks Lance! Definitely going to do this first since it's quick and easy.

Ah this is why I love MooneySpace! I'm starting to chase down a CO problem in my new to me Mooney Bravo this weekend. It's recently had new carpet installed, a new door seal (that whistles when the wind angle is right so def needs adjustment), and new exhaust clamps. In my case, CLOSING the cowl flaps causes the CO levels to drop from 50-100ppm to 0-10ppm. So in cruise it's just fine, it's the climb with open cowl flaps that has me concerned. I'm going to start with getting the door to seal better, and look at the tail bulkhead. If after this I still have high CO levels, I'll pull the carpet out and tape up anything that looks like CO can seep through.

Thank you @carusoam, this is exactly what I find valuable on MS, owners who have seen a thing or two over the years and can share their experience.

It's pretty normal after landing. Normal being what I've observed in the 182 and 172 I flew before the Mooney: 0-40ppm. My pre-buy mechanic did see evidence of a leaking exhaust gasket on one cylinder, it was in Maxwell's shop so they were supposed to have put on all new exhaust gaskets. Just before I took delivery, new carper and seats went in. There were some panel upgrades too, so it's plausible that there's a firewall hole where some cables/hoses were re/moved and it's not sealed back up. I haven't looked there yet, but that's what I'll do next before I go changing out mouse boots. Thanks for the reply @Ragsf15e !

I'm a brand new Bravo owner, and have some high CO levels on climb. About 100ppm, not a lethal dose for many hours, but still too high for my comfort level. Closing the cowl flaps causes the CO to drop to a reasonable 1-10ppm. I read here on MS that mouse boots could be an issue, so I looked inside my wheel wells and while they aren't completely torn, they do have some holes and could definitely be replaced. Anybody have a source for them? I have a message in to LASAR to see if they have anything. Cheers, Jeremy

@201Steve parking might be a problem, I'd call ahead to ASI and Honaker at JVY and see what they recommend. I haven't seen JVY during derby, but SDF and LOU are parking light jets on every inch of pavement they can spare on derby weekend. It's absolutely insane! JVY is uncontrolled, and at an ATC forum a SDF controller told me he's begging the FAA for a temporary tower at JVY just for Derby weekend! Let me know what you find out and if I can help at all while your here. I can definitely recommend my favorite local restaurants and the fun bourbon distillery tours in town.

Hi @Boilermonkey! Thank you for the warm welcome. I've been to BAK, but only to kiss the runway on instrument training flights. I'm happy to learn there's an on-field restaurant, I'm bummed the one at Muncie closed. I will definitely head over there to meet you for a $100 hamburger! I also really appreciate the shuttle offer! My new Mooney will be due for it's first annual in July, so I'm hoping I can have it in the shop while I go to Oshkosh (I'll be in Camp Scholler with my trailer at OSH). I'm going to call up Anderson, thank you very much for the recommendation. Cheers, Jeremy

I have a cousin who is a cadaver dog handler/trainer, and of course knows all the law enforcement K9 people in his area. He said I should bring it over to him, his buddies would love to have the dogs sniff it over for me as a training exercise. I'm definitely taking him up on it!
-
So @LANCECASPER, did you ever take it out of the country and the plane "sniffed over" by a customs dog upon re-entry to the US? Odd question, I know, but I was googling the previous owners, and the owner who had it in the late 90's has the same name as a guy who was involved in running cocaine from Miami to Memphis. Now, the 90's were a long time ago, maybe he didn't use it as a mule, maybe it's a different guy, and it just had new carpet/seats installed. But I have to admit, if I take it over to the Bahamas and it gets drug sniffed by customs when I get back, I might be a wee bit nervous while the dog does his job. LOL!

Cool! It is N794RS!

Why yes, I am!

Hi all, I'm a soon to be Mooney owner, picking her up week after next in Texas, looking to see if there are any other Louisville owners lurking here who don't mind my asking questions from time to time. My first concern is finding a Mooney shop near Louisville. I just talked to Muncie Aviation and they are no longer a Mooney Service Center.
-
I did a half ass search to see if this had been asked before, clearly I failed! Thank you for the links to the other threads, very helpful.

I’ve signed a purchase agreement, and this is certainly the least of my concerns…. but my wife says we should name her when she becomes officially my first Mooney. So do any of you have a cool or clever pet name for your ship? A friend of mine has a Cherokee Six and named it the “Orange Bird”, it has a fun decal of the Disney Orange bird on the side. The reason? It’s slow but knows how to get to Florida.

Interested in this M20K 252 but have concerns

Yes! That one was not overpriced in my opinion though. Just lacking a few items I want, like WAAS, but otherwise really disappointed I wasn’t the first one to jump on it. -

Wow thanks for all the quick responses! Most of you are confirming my gut feeling on it, I will probably have much less headache if I spend more money on a M20K 231 that's been flown regularly. I have found two that were great, a bit overpriced, but otherwise everything I want. Of course both were already under contract, one of them less than 24 hours after it posted! -

Haha yes! If that thing doesn't play pong, this plane is a "no go" for me. -
Hello and Happy New Year! I'd like to hear opinions from you all on this M20K 231 with 252 mods that's currently listed on Trade-a-plane. This will be my first Mooney purchase. The good, it's owned by an A&P/IA who brought it out of sitting idle for many years, and has been working on it. (replaced a cylinder, tires, ADSB out xpnder, etc). The concern, it sounds like from the broker that the A&P is not current and isn't flying it. He had intentions of getting current and using the plane for commuting between his A&P shops located in different states. But, it sounds like time is getting the best of him. I'd feel more comfortable if the plane was flying regularly after all this recent work. I'd really like to see it flown about 10 hours and an oil analysis conducted. Is this overly cautious of me? Here's the listing.... like I said above, I'd really value your take on it, since I'm going to be a first time airplane owner and a first time Mooney owner. https://www.trade-a-plane.com/search?category_level1=Single+Engine+Piston&make=MOONEY&model=M20K+252&listing_id=2399957&s-type=aircraft# A little about me: I'm currently flying a 182 in a club, 250 hour pilot very close to getting my IR. I posted here a few weeks ago about short vs mid body Mooney's. After looking at M20J's, giving more thought to it, and a review of my financial situation, I've decided that an M20K 231 is what I really want. A 231 with 252 mods isn't out of the question either (like this one).

Short vs mid body Mooney differences for a new buyer?
skyfarer replied to skyfarer's topic in General Mooney Talk
But with 64 gallon bladders it will carry two people and pretty much anything I can fit in it farther, faster, and more efficiently than anything at it’s price point. Including experimentals. I think that is pretty remarkable. Exactly why I’m looking at Mooney’s! Thank you for your reply. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Yeah "roomier" "airy" it's all relative right? I remember getting checkout in a 172 for the first time after earning my PPL in a 152 back in '91. The 172 felt like a 737 airliner to me. Fast forward, I'm in a club now with an RV-12, couple 172's and a 182, so I'm bouncing around between all 3. It amazes me what the few inches of extra room in the 182 vs the 172 feels like. When I jump in the 182 after flying the 172, it sure feels "Airy". Now going from the RV-12 to the 182, "cavernous" is how I'd describe it! haha! Hence why I started this thread. I'm in the market for a Mooney, having never sat in one. This is good, lots of opinions boiling up out of this, thank you everyone! -

This is exactly what I'm looking for. I fly with G5's now and love them. Bonus would be a 2-axis AP. I like that Insight Engine monitor you have in there too. Noted on the J/F if I want more room in the back seat for pax. Thanks for your reply! -

@Hank you definitely picked up on that choice or words there! Yes, I have 5 in total, 3 of my own and my wife has 2, they range from 10 to 18 years old. Only 1 of mine even likes flying. My wife's two like flying, (10 and 12). The rest don't care for it. Honestly I'm not buying a plane for family trips, it's for me and my wife to travel in. It would be good to know if I can take 2 kids on a day trip If the right M20C came along and I knew the kids might outgrow it, I doubt I'd pass it up. I'm 50, so I'm thinking more of my pending "empty nest" adventures than anything else. :-) -

Amazing @Hank! Thanks for the photos! Yeah I think my wife and me and some dive gear would fit just fine in a ‘70 M20C!
