  1. Sounds right... My"issue" was actually flying off center line and into the wind.... It wasn't blowing me off center.... Right full rudder and tail went right... Reliving this in my mind I did relax my dip into the wind because I was nosing into it... So maybe a right turn back towards center but that felt wrong... Especially as I was trying to get settled for climb. But I agree... More practice.
  2. Yes that's part of the upgrade... Until then... Well... Good decision making and lots of prayer.
  3. Full length... I'd say... Yes?
  4. Was Quartering head wind not direct x wind... And hard to tell how much as my initial dip left was quickly squashed by the weathervane after lift off. I flew a Sundowner before this and she was amazing in crosswind... So this flight characteristic really threw me. I had to land just over demonstrated one time in Wyoming and the guys in the tower said they were ready to call EMS any second and complimented the landing... My attitude indicator showed almost a standard rate turn just before touchdown.... Granted that was wind from the right.... And a totally different plane.
  5. Here's the fore mentioned 66e. Love it too!!! And mine will be joining your ranks ... Almost... Getting a 650 and gtx345 for Christmas to get compliant. Happy for you!
  6. Hey guys.... So got my dual in and am loving the Mooney!!! Burns less fuel than my beech and waaayyy faster... Tailwind and 160kt GS... Any how... Crosswind take off.. left Quartering headwind of 15kt all the right rudder she had wouldn't keep the nose right... She went like a weathervane right into the wind. If this had been a parallel runway.... Well I'd been in deep ****... Sooooo.. Normal? Can't imagine so but have no coordination issue till this experience? 66 m20e Thanks
  7. yes, It does have LR tanks, solid belly, extra doors on the wheels 201 panel 201 cowling, one piece windshield, three blade prop, stec 60 AP, rear battery(looks original) lightweight starter. I would really love that CG forward about 3" if this info does all check out after I have it weighed a 2ND time...arrg... Id like to put that battery right on the firewall LOL... but like there is room.
  8. The sales images didn't show an AI in the panel because the aspen was installed. I was going to install a Vac one JIC... When I showed up to close one had already been installed. So Plus for me. By the way... the aspen back up bat is alike 20 -30 min max... it got tested on the first flight out of home base...unfortunately. So very glad to have the vac if.. should say when.. things go sideways. Because ... well ... they are 50 yr old airplanes.
  9. So made it back! Flew great.. Extremely control sensitive. Flew the numbers on our third landing.. Ain't nothing but a thing.... Love it. First two... Yeah we were hot on final and not enough room to slow her down.... First take off trying to put the gear up at 100... Lol. Wasn't happening as I'm sure you all know... The magic 80!!!! The "experienced" Mooney pilot they had to do a discovery flight with us after closing... Was 6'4 .. 200 and has forgotten more than I've ever known.... Think it's been a while since his experience was revisited... So our flight home was based on general HP experience and reading knowledge provided by y'all.... Can't wait to get to true flying characteristics being that was just 10 hrs cross country.
  10. Attached are the original w&b chart and the current W&B done to my new bird. Thoughts as to why she is heavier than ALL the book empty weights of of this era? My CG is extremely aft in all set ups... Even with a 20# gain of the McCauley tri-prop. Thanks
  11. Wow... The shoulder harness hadn't crossed my mind yet! But that will be a must. And I agree.... I instantly felt there was an AI missing wether it's legal without it or not! Just old school I suppose!
  12. Picking up in KAID, any hits on an experienced Fellow there? Home base of KAPA...same question? This was my plan all along just FYI, hence the reason for some handling tips. Thanks!
  13. So I am a Private VFR who has started instrument training and currently at 310 hrs. Flown 100 plus hrs in pipers, 12 in arrows, and 174 hrs in a sundowner including CO to Bar harbor MAINE (no AP) and back. Just Bought a 1966 M20E with LR tanks, updated PFD panel and Garmin 400 (non-waas) but coupled to a STEC 60, and a Mcauley Tri! Going to pick her up in middle america next week and bring her home to CO!! Taking my CFII but he has not flown a mooney before but is hedging in with 800+ hrs. Due to the wealth of knowledge among ya'll I am looking for handling tips! Thanks IN advance!
