I went ahead and got AeroShell W100 since that’s what’s in it, then I picked up a filter at Aircraft Spruce for $25... $25... Is it legal to just screw on a Fram or Purolator?

Can anyone recommend a good, economical LED landing light?

Sorry for the delay replying. I've got limited instrumentation. Basic EGTs and head temps; Cylinder #3 sensor is on the fritz. I can only view one cylinder at a time. No carb temp. Only the Prop has Vernier type control. I definitely cannot get lean of peak. I fly very slightly rich of peak, just rich enough to smooth out. Cylinder #1 at around 1365 deg I think.

My landing light quit on me the other night on approach after working for fine at taxi and takeoff. I cycled the switch and it felt like a breaker not wanting to engage. After I was on the ground taxiing fir a bit, I was able to cycle the switch and it worked fine again. Is it pulling too much power? Would replacing it with an LED landing light solve the issue? Is there a reasonably priced option out there?

Getting ready to do another oil change. Wondering how people feel about AeroShell 100W vs Phillips66 100AW. I've always used AeroShell, but the Phillips66 is much cheaper, and they seem to be the same thing. Also, where do you guys buy your oil and filters. I'm always looking to save a buck...

I found a guy at French Valley I think I'm going to like, based on our phone conversation. I went ahead and ordered a TailBeacon. I'll keep you guys posted.

Congratulations! I got my 1965 M20C last year. They are wonderful airplanes. I think your panel cost more than my airplane.

I have not made the purchase yet. I wanted to make sure I had the installation and sign off lined up. I noticed the tail beacon is more expensive (that’s how cheap I am.) is there an advantage to it?

I just flew into Henderson this past Sunday; at which airfield is your AI located? Does he do owner assisted annuals as well?

I just want to get legal with my C Model before the New Year. The plan was to install a Skybeacon, and have Dennis at Inland Valley Aviation sign off on it, and get his instrument guy to run the tests. Turns out Dennis sold Inland Valley Aviation to Affordable Avionics, and they won’t touch the Skybeacon. Grrr... Now I need to find someone to help me with the Skybeacon, AND I have to find a new place to do my owner assisted annuals. Can anybody help with suggestions?

Okay, so I played with the carb heat on the way back from Vegas last weekend at 10,500’ When I introduced a little carb heat, the EGT dropped significantly, along with power. I wasn’t able to lean much more, before it ran rough, and couldn’t get back to the original EGT.

I find myself in full agreement with you. After talking to the little woman, it turns out she doesn’t want to be in the plane more than about two hours at a time anyway, so it’s just as easy to stop for lunch and continue on... The C Model is easy, fun, and plenty of air-lane for my current missions. I’ll look at Ms when she’s wanting to do more long trips...

Thanks guys.

The Cowgirl Cantina in Old Town Temecula has a taco called the Surfin Cowboy - most satisfaction available for under $5. I’ll meet you in French Valley and share an Uber into Old Town.

You guys are great, and thanks for the warm welcome. I’ll definitely stay in touch.

I just joined the West Coast Mooney Group on Facebook last week, and they had a Fly-In at Harris Ranch yesterday. I think nine Mooneys showed up, and we all had a great meal together.

Does anybody have a PDF or something I can stick in ForeFlight?

What’s it like to fly a Bravo after you’ve been flying the M20C for a couple hundred hours? I love my little Mooney for local stuff, but the wife gets annoyed at 4:30 trip times to Sun Valley and Aspen. it looks like the Bravo could knock a bit over an hour off the trip.

Thanks, I’ll contact them.

I thought I had posted about this previously, but I’m unable to find it. I was very happy last April with my first annual, owner assisted for N202GE, but annoyed by the $500 charge for the required 2 blade Hartzel prop inspection. This seems excessive and basically adds an unnecessary and uneconomical $5/hr onto my flying costs. Seems it ought to be doable for $100-150 for the inspection. Can anyone recommend a prop guy who can do this for a more reasonable charge? I’m based at KCNO in Southern California.

There was an old thread about these cruise settings that I recall reading through. I took a long flight from Chino, CA to Sun Valley, ID last July and used Hank’s method, sans the carb heat. I flew back into a 25 knot headwind at 11,500’ and was in the air for 5Hrs 20mins - I had over ten gallons left in the tank when I landed. Settings were 2500 rpm WOT backed off a hair to see tiny move on MP gauge. Leaned until rough, then back in just a touch for smooth running. TAS was around 165mph - 140mph over the ground via gps. I’ve got basic speed mods, but nothing fancy; I was thrilled with the performance. These birds really like altitude. I wanna say the MP was around 20.5” - but not positive on that. Same settings got me there in 4hrs 15min at 10,500’ with a nice tailwind 175-180mph over the ground via gps. Are you guys saying I could do even better with a touch of carb heat? Does this let you lean a bit more, before it runs rough?

Love my Mooney, and I’ve been flying it regularly since I got it this past Fall. I got through the first annual without breaking the bank, so I’m feeling pretty good about that. I’ve got about 300 hours total over the course of more decades than I’d like to admit. I’ve put about 75 on the Mooney so far. I never really thought I’d need an Instrument Rating, but the weather has been unusually cloudy here in SoCal, and I’ve had to cancel a couple trips as a result. Had I an IR, I could have punched through a low layer and flown VFR on top. Can anyone recommend a good instructor, school or program to get this done in my area? Plane is based at KCNO.

Doing an owner assisted annual on the plane and broke the elbow fitting that attaches to the fuel strainer with a bone-headed move. Anyone know where I can find this part? Also, someone stole my red can beacon lense - really?

Not sure yet. Have to see what I’m doing to the front seats first.
