  1. That is what I have come to know. 335BB is a mouthful but no plan to change the N. It has been a joy to own. And thankyou for your thoughts about the 796. That's what I thought. Need upgrade et.al. but I don't use it that much so upgrade happening.
  2. Dumb question : will a 760 fit in the same holder as the 796 I have and work? If not advise what mods I'll need to do. Don't like cabin clutter so I have avoided an ipad.
  3. Where does one order such from ? And thank you so much.,
  4. 1983 M20J, light is burned out, got juice to the light. Trying to find replacement or something new like Watt has. I read some of the threads LED's, sync strobes, and about circuit linked to gear down on annunciator panel. Any new thought appreciated. And while I'm thinking of it, I was considering a beacon on belly. Has anyone added where one has never been? What kind etc. and et.al. ?
  5. That's funny as hell.
  6. I'm hard the trail for a Mooney. This time it's a go for launch. But it's been awhile. I'm in Van Zandt County but the plane will likely be at KTRL. As soon as I get the plane over here, I really want a thorough check out. A couple of days +++. Are there any Mooney Ace's out there that I could hook up with for such? I'm willing to pay for their time unless you just have to fly. LOL. I haven't nailed down the plane, but looking hard at an 68 E Chaparral and a 80 J Model and few others. The later ( first pic )is more pricey but finding a plane with the avionics, autopilot, and such has been a bit difficult. But the one in the first pic is in Melbourne Fla. Thanks Buck Austin VanTrease 512-470-4701 buckvantrease@gmail.com
  7. The plane is located in Longview so Maxwell would be the obvious choice. But the seller has moved from SanAntonio to Longview. Should I be concerned about a conflict of interest with the seller and Maxwell on the same field? Maybe just overthinking things. This will be my first Mooney ( E model )
  8. What’s that.
  9. Thanks Ross. Stashing your advice for the near future. Hopefully soon Buck
  10. Thank you all for the valuable information. Extra thanks to Hank. I’m writing everything down and keeping a diatribe of you all’s advice and thoughts. Anyone whom wants can reach me at directly at (512) 470-4701 or buckvantrease@gmail.com . Hope I didn’t bust any FAR.s posting my personal information .
  11. Never seen how a manual gear bar works . Probably on u the tube. I,m a veterinarian not an airplane expert. I know of Maxwell in Longview ie, his son. So someone like that when it gets serious but heck in my ramblings looking, is there a way to have a “Sherpa” to help me know what to look out for. I’m starting my homework by being on here but this is as overwhelming to me as orthopedic surgery might be for others. I have a willing student mindset. ( wish my dad was still here but he’s doing low passes in his Swift at an air show for Jesus).
  12. I’m getting catching up on the tread. I remember my dad saying correct speeds on landings was key. He’d bust my ass if I was 5 k hot . ( Crusty TWA Capt ). Skydrv: I see your point Ok so an E. Ok I’ll journey that way
  13. Was trying to change the header #$%*, Considering a Mooney for XCountry Plane
  14. Ok the disclosures first. VFR( will get IFR as soon as I get out of rentals). Budget 65K, 850 hours my TT. Smattering of complex along the way ( CJ6, Arrow ). 90% me myself and I: no 4 people, X-Country 300-500 miles max to visit kids, I’m current but been flying C172 last few years. I know my limitations and plan on transition training at length if I can find a seasoned Mooney captain here ( KTRL is my base ). Will be hangared. I've heard its landing that’s tricky. My dad flew a 20C for years but I was pretty green when I flew it and he was R seat each time. I’m 61 years old and blessed with good health. Ive searched out what insurance costs will be, annuals, unexpected things and I’m good. So I’m reaching out for which M20 folks recommend for this low time pilot.
  15. My world is checklists. The home, the car, the weedeaters........ so my natural inclination is to create a checklist of things to look for in purchasing my first Mooney. I'm thinking I early model electric gear. That's about a far as I'm come. Not much right? I got the money, the hanger, insurance, .... Can you all provide items I should include on my checklist. Ultimately I will have the plane go thru a pre purchase inspection at a certified Mooney facility. There's one near me in Longview, Texas. Thanks and safe flying
  16. I met with Don Maxwell about 2 weeks ago. ( today is Oct. 13th, 2018 ). He went out of his way to come in on a Sunday to discuss Mooneys. I'm in the process of educating myself pre-purchase. I couldn't have found Don more helpful if I'd paid him 1000.00 bucks. ( by the way it was on his own time and didn't charge me a dime ). Ever had a really bad day? I thought so. We all have. Enough said about judging one person on one day. I'm not a Don Maxwell apologiest but if it's bothering you that bad you that you have to take time to rant, maybe you should see someone. You don't need to put "your 2 cents worth in" to "protect otherw". Seriously? That's laughable. THE MARKET PLACE SORTS OUT ALL THE BAD WEEDS OVER TIME. Been that way since some dude named Adam met Eve. Not your negative thoughts. In fact, it highlights some of Don't greatest assets which are too many to count. Sincerly submitted. 17. Hoping this bird is still for sale?
  18. Just wondering if this plane is still for sale ?
  19. Just wondering how the logistics of having a PIP done if there’s a place you prefer and plane is in a different. Plane in NC but wanted Maxwell to inspect?
  20. decide if running LOP is worth the difference... " What's LOP
  21. Actually Don pointed out your windshield as we were talking about the differnt looks . Buck
  22. Thank you for all your thoughts to everyone. As the process eases along I took the time and was fortunate to meet Don Maxwell. I found him to be a great great resource. He took time on his day off to come in just to meet with me. We walked thru the hanger and look at various Mooneys and their characteristics. I'd never seen a Mooney up on jacks like a car in mechanic shop. Pretty cool. I will surely reconnect with him and his very helpful wife Jan. I like the C's. If I found one with the 201 front windshield that might the THE ONE. Queston: 4 or 6 cylinders ? Frankly I thought they were all 6's. Shows how little I know.
  23. Thank you very much, It's just maybe 2 souls/ rarely 3 max...... rarely. Mostly just me. I remember space in the Mooney being tight. My dad was 6'3" I'm 6' so it was tight. Comments about manual landing gear vs. electric? I generally wasn't considering manual. But as with all things there's pros and cons likely. I have to look up every time to remember the differences in the models and years. Thanks for your thoughts. Visiting Don Maxwell tomorrow..........
  24. I will contact him at my earliest convience. .........Thanks Buck
