Going to have the generator changed out soon on my M20C. Was wondering if the prop has to come off or not? If not mechanic can do it in my hanger if it does have to come off he wants it to go to his shop. Thanks in advance. Lucas

For the electrical savvy guys my 62 M20C battery quit charging on the way home. Backround info, dont know how old the generator is or when brushes were changed. Cant find in log. I had the old vibrating regulator changed out with a G1500N Zeftronics GCU in march 2018 to get with the times. Today I tried reflashing the generator and took a bunch of readings. Here are the numbers. -With GCU disconnected and master on at the GCU and at generator as values were the same field-gnd 8.9ohms field-arm 7.6ohms arm-ground 1.5ohms (very high should be 0-0.1ohms, prob why it wasnt kicking on till about 1600-1700rpms before) -readings at gcu with wires removed were all normal -after install i have the green GO, green VR and red CL lights on as says i should bat-case is 12.66v field to case is 0v Generator still wont kick on What you guys think? Generator? Thanks for your time Lucas

Update. Went flying today. Was 10 degrees f on the ground. Ran great in climb. Once i leveled off and got into my cruise setting i did have a vibration after the initial stumbling of engine during leaning. I brought mixture in about an inch more and vibration went away mostly.

This is my 3rd plane. Only my sundowner had egt. My older 172 also did not. I did find with my beechcraft that if i leaned with the egt or the old school way they were pretty close.
-
I had some prop work done in sept. Sent out to prop shop to have a ding blended out. I was thinking it may be that. Im going to play with the mixture next time im up and a few other checks then im going to get it dynamically balanced. Just cant remember feeling it so bad.
-
Yes lean till rough then increase mixture. This seems like a vibration to me not engine roughness but thats just me. No egt on this plane just oil temp and cyl temp.

When the weather cooperates i will try a few things. Looking at 16in snow up here tonight. will get back to you all with results.
-
mike20papa i will try that. Maybe just so damn cold. Cyl head temp is always at bottom of green or barely not in the green.

Carb heat check at run-up is correct.
-
I will play with the mixture more next time im up. Just been so cold i dont wanna cool her off to much. Prob being to cautious.
-
Yes the mag check is great. Been real cold here lately. 0-10 degrees f on ground. 1st winter with her and only acts up when i lean her out.
-
She is about as old school as old school gets so no engine monitors or anything like that.

Got the bird back from maintenance (OH Mags, fuel sender gaskets, etc etc and while on return trip home I forgot to lean out engine after climb for a while. When I finally realized my newbie mistake and pulled the mixture back I have a vibration now. Took her out for a spin today and same thing. Runs smooth on climb but as soon as I pull mixture back I get the engine vibration again. Any ideas? What's the fouled spark plug procedure on a carbureted mooney? Thanks Luke

Looking to replace my fuel sender gaskets in a 62 m20c. Anybody know where I can get some or if they are made with some type of material by mechanics? Thanks and hope everyone had a great Christmas. Luke.

M20C Ignition Harness O-360 w/bendix mags
LucasC replied to LucasC's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Kelly it is. Thanks guys. -
Time to change my ignition harness. Many of the plug wire shields have pulled out of the magneto caps. Wondering which manufacturer you guys have had good luck with? Im looking at either the champion slick harness for bendix mags which says that they dont need elbows or the kelly aerospace harness which has the option of elbows or not. What you think?

Old school rides, lol. Thanks for fixing pic idk why it went sideways like that.

Here it is everybody! Looks even better in person. I would highly suggest getting one done if any of you are interested.

Thanks Cody will relay that to my mechanic. Is this something you’re shop would look at?

Face looks great, no sign of anything.

Really odd spot. Boggles my mind but here we are.

looks to be a sharp rock. There has been a lot of drainage excavation work going on at airport. I didn't here it happen so that's just a guess.

After my flight yesterday and while cleaning bugs I noticed a little divit about 1/8" wide on backside of prop in meaty section close to spinner area. I brought it up to my mechanic and he is concerned because after inspecting it with one of those jeweler magnification things he noticed a pinhole inside the divit. Prop was OH'd with one new blade and hub in 2005 and has about 700hrs since. What do you think are my options? Does insurance cover things like this? Close up pics below are with magnification.
