  1. That last line was a Freudian slip. It should have read "Mooney won"
  2. Hi Guys, I pick up my new-to-me Mooney on Thursday of this week. It's a 1984 M20J. I've owned lots of aircraft during my 41 years of flying but never anything fast. My fleet has consisted of PA28-140 (2), AA1A, AA5B, C-172, and about 20 Ercoupes. I've added a couple of pictures for you to see. While some of you are removing the same equipment I have in my panel for new stuff, this is by far the best panel I have ever flown behind and I am really looking forward to it. There might be a fancy engine monitor in my near future. I would like to buy some touch-up paint to apply to the leading edges were there are some chips and blemishes. Any suggestion on matching the color? It has the original paint. I suspect even if I could match it via paint code, it might not match due to fading over 36 years, and I don't know the paint code, anyway. Thoughts? Suggestions? BTW, my options were a Piper Lance or a Mooney. Money won. Glen
  3. Guys, I have a Garmin GTX 330 ES connected to a Garmin 530. I want to have Traffic and Weather on my Ipad. I can swap the 330 for a 345 for a cost of $7000 and I will have traffic and weather on my Ipad. Or I can buy from Sporty's a Sentry portable ADSB for $500 and have traffic and weather on my Ipad. What am I missing? Seems like a no-brainer. Glen I
  4. Guys, I have a J in for a prebuy right now. The mechanic has not talked to me yet but did send a few pictures. Attached is a shot showing a small crack in the training edge of the elevator. It's been drill stopped. Is this a big deal, big enough that I should ask the seller for a reduction in price. The price I'm paying is fair market value, not a super deal and not overpriced. If this can be fixed, what is the procedure? Glen
  5. I have not found an electronic checklist for the M20J in the Foreflight dropdown list. Other models are there but not the J. Has anyone found a way to import one or is there another electronic checklist (outside of Foreflight) that you can recommend? Thanks Glen
  6. Thanks guys. I'm all set!! Glen
  7. Thanks Guys!
  8. Hi Guys and Gals, I have been flying for 42 years (since I was 19...do the math). I've owned some plane of one type or another that entire time. This includes a Cherokee 140, Grumman Yankee, Cessna 172, Grumman Tiger and 20 plus Ercoupes. I became a broker for Ercoupes after I taught Jessica Cox to fly (see www.rightfooted.com). Jessica flys with her feet. I have a 1984 M20J in prebuy this week. I'm really excited about going fast for a change! As an aside, I had an old friend who bought an Ercoupe in 1952. Ercoupes cruise at 105 MPH. He told me when they needed to get someplace fast they would take "The Coupe". Otherwise they would fly the J3 Cub! If all goes well with the pre-buy, I would like to find a CFI in the area of Kokomo, Indiana I can hire to introduce me to the Mooney. I estimate 3 to 5 hours will do the trick but I want to feel comfortable in the plane so will do whatever that takes. I'm a CFII with 4000 hours but no Mooney time and not a lot of retract time. If you know of anyone, please let me know. I thought that MAPA had a training program but I can't even seem to join MAPI when I go to their site. It says "Membership Subscription Area: Coming Soon!" Thanks for any help. Glen Davis 917 297 1111 cell Call or text
  9. I have a 1984 M20J in for a prebuy right now. Do the back seats on this year and model fold down flat? If so, was that standard or an option? Thanks, Glen
  10. Need HELP. I have a deposit on a M20J in Kokomo, Indiana. I want to have a Mooney savvy mechanic do the prebuy. Any suggestions? Thank you. Also, what is the rough price to reseal tanks at one of the tank speciality shops, should I need that down the road? This is a 1984 and the tanks are not leaking now but...... Glen 917 297 1111 cell
