  1. Our vernier control vibrates to high RPM..Is this an easy fix or will it require a new control? Thanks GHW
  2. Appreciate the replies...Will try and have the unit overhauled to keep costs down for now. I do like the idea of the G5! GHW
  3. Good grief..... Less than a month into aircraft ownership and the attitude indicator appears to be going south and will need to be replaced. Works for awhile and then wanders into steep turns in level flight than back to normal??? Spruce quoted $2400 for replacement.. I'm guessing the high price is due to the STEC autopilot in the aircraft? Can these units (Century artificial horizon 400c-1 model) be overhauled and where might I send it if it can be overhauled? Along the same lines...What should my suction gauge be reading at idle? My gauge is reading 3 at idle (1000rpm)? In the green during flight. Thanks a bunch, GHW
  4. I have a 64 M20C with the spin on filter on the right side...I believe the assembly is mounted to firewall. I have only looked under the cowling twice..have only owned the plane for 3 weeks. GHW
  5. Any vintage Mooney instructors near CLT. I have two boys with PPL that need a complex endorsement. I would prefer they get the instruction in our M20C. Thanks GHW
  6. Will do Lancecasper....it will be December before I do anything. Still recovering from initial purchase / pre-purchase / getting it home / full set tires tubes plugs......... GHW
  7. Thanks guys...Whelen Parmetheus it will be.. Hank-what is the small opening above your air filter?
  8. Hi All, I would like to replace landing light (NLI 4522 12v 250W) with LED landing light. I was hoping Aircraft Spruce could point me in the right direction with no success. Is it as easy as removing GE bulb and replacing with LED assuming I find the correct LED replacement? 1964 M20C single landing light pax side Thanks, GHW
  9. Great articles....I am now going to spend a little time learning the Insight 602 GEM installed in the plane! GHW
  10. Will try some aggressive leaning! Flew with my son last night while he worked on night landings...fuel pressure hung around 5.5 without boost. Will keep an eye on it. The occasional knock/miss/stumble had me thinking if I had leaned to aggressive or I had not advanced mixture enough for the descent. Noticed a few times last night in the pattern with no leaning...will lean next time see if that helps... A&P is going to ride with me next flight.. Its been 21 years since I've flown recips... This will be a learning process not only for my boys building time but for me as well! And I do enjoy the lower altitude flying! GHW
  11. Thank you all...The fuel pressure is high on ground at idle (1000rpms) without boost pump. Taxied aircraft today and FP was at 6psi a little lower as I increased power for taxi. Hank- engine runs smooth for most part (another potential post if new plugs all around do not cure the occasional knock / miss?? not sure how to describe it) during descent & power reduction. Ran just fine at altitude 7500ft on flight back from TX. FP was 4-5 psi at altitude. DXB- yes on the ground. seems to remain in the green at higher power setting. Raptor - 1964 N7164U Will try the suggestions and see what I find out this weekend. Thanks, George (AKA Hank but that name was already taken LOL!!)
  12. Hello to all..two weeks into aircraft ownership with 1964 M20C. Already on the board with my first question / problem. Fuel pressure is on the high side of green arc 6.5 - 7. Any thoughts on where I should begin with high fuel pressure? Previous topics w high pressure seem to be in the injected engines or did I miss HFP post in carb engines? Thanks, G
