Yes, possibly interested. Can you advise on price? -
WTB: Fuel Flow Indicator
Jayhawk_aviator replied to Jayhawk_aviator's topic in Avionics / Parts Classifieds
Do you have one to sell? Thanks, -
I am looking for a used standalone fuel flow (or possibly combined CHT/EGT/fuel flow) indicator. Preferably 2". I have the transducer and relevant lines...just need an indicator that has some approval on Mooney.
-
Potentially interested in the JPI...how much are you asking and can you send me your number to discuss?
-
Is anyone aware of an STC that approves the Davtron 550 (? I think) fuel flow indicator in the Mooney aircraft? The 1978 J model we purchased had one installed and trying to find the approval source.

thanks all. Used the QD cleaner and did the procedure, recalibrated per the mm. didnt seem to fix it unfortunately.

Intermittent Low Voltage Warning
Jayhawk_aviator replied to Jayhawk_aviator's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
We cleaned and recalibrated the unit per the other thread to where the light comes on at 12.5 (per the service manual). It still seems to come on in the low 13s or high 12s...initially shows up as a dull glow. Anyone have access to a schematic for the IAI unit? -
What type of electronics cleaner...the spray on screen cleaner or something else? For cailbrating the pot on the bench, you apply regulated power to which pin then watch for the flashing? Manual implies to do it on the aircraft while running and doesn't clarify either.

Have a 78 M20J. We are seeing intermittent issues where the low voltage annunciator light flashes. I don't have a full time voltage display, but I have checked it with a digital readout in the cig lighter as well as a page on one of the avionics. It seems to be consistently fluctuating between 14 and maybe 12.8 or 12.9. All should be above the low voltage threshold. Alternator appears to be supplying power (if I pull the field breaker the ammeter goes negative right away). Battery has been replaced with no real change in behavior. Alternator is relatively new. Seems to be loosely tied to load, as it's more likely to occur with a lot of stuff on (landing light, etc.), but it doesn't directly tie to loading (can also occur with minimal load). I suppose voltage regulator could be suspect, but I'm struggling to tie all the evidence together with a failure there. Any thoughts? Thanks.

M20J Speed Improvement?

Good to know. I have a step and one piece belly for what its worth. Interested in the old vs new door assessment. -
M20J Speed Improvement?
Jayhawk_aviator replied to Jayhawk_aviator's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Thanks guys. I'm really surprised to hear that. It seems like I'm at least 10 knots below book. Regarding the inner gear doors...anyway have a good estimate on what those add? The speed is better on the later (flat?) inner doors as opposed to the clamshell? Anyone know the part number or reference on where to get? I think I see that Mooney Mart has those? -
Have a relatively new to me M20J. Engine is strong with high 70s compression, and prop was just overhauled. Extensive annual where gear doors / cowl flaps were rigged, and all flight control rigging was checked. The inner gear doors were not installed when we bought the plane (and the fairing that go in front under the wing are missing as well). As part o the annual we peformed the SB (forget the number) which removes the ram air (since it doesn't really really do anything on the Js). The brake calipers are installed in front of the axle...not sure if that is an STC or something else. Question is this...not seeing near the speeds expected. I haven't done a true 4 way TAS test yet, but at 9500' (10 deg C) flat out (21ish inches MAP, 2600+ RPM, 10.2 GPH, one on board, 3/4 fuel) I was seeing around 152ish knots. Book says we should be around 15 knots higher in that configuration. Other than the inner gear doors which I understand adds about 5ish knots (?), anyone have any suggestions on what may be happenning and why the numbers are so far off?

I'm looking for a set of inner gear doors. M20Doc, do you have them for sale?

All M20Js Have Squat Switch?
Jayhawk_aviator replied to Jayhawk_aviator's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Thanks guys...makes sense. Mine is a 78 and has an airspeed switch, but no squat switch (weight on wheels). Anyone know the airspeed that the airspeed switch activates? -
Should all M20Js have squat switch (not the limit switch, but the weight on wheels switch)? I seem to recall in the IPC it is not applicable to all serial numbers. Thanks, Scott

Removing the avionics for an upgrade. I was surprised to see that the avionics racks were attached only using double-flush rivets. They have to be that way for the removable assembly to be installed and remove. Have others seen the same thing? Anyone know the specific material type Mooney used? Normally I would say 2024 T3 or 6061 T6, but given the tight 90 deg bend at the edges, it makes me wonder if its 5052. Anyone come up with a better solution while still retaining the modular nature of the panel (I like that)? With the current config, the "structure" holding the racks results in basically a small 0.050" strip attaching to the front sides of the rack with rivets. Thanks.

Crankshaft flange identification

Is the oversize bushing the one that has a "step" to it? -
Crankshaft flange identification
Jayhawk_aviator replied to Jayhawk_aviator's topic in General Mooney Talk
That was my question I think. With #1 cylinder at tdc, should the tdc mark on the flywheel be lined with the arrow at the split in the case? -
Reattaching the flywheel and spinner dome on the m20j. There is an "O" on the flywheel and crankshaft flange to line up, but I can't see the mark on the flange. I do see a 40 stamp on the edge of the flange, and it appears that that bushing is "stepped" at the point. Is that the O? Is there another way to find the O bushing? thnaks scott

Thanks...thats a good thought to use a metal bracket to reduce the risk of cracking. -
Picture of fuel flow bracket?
Jayhawk_aviator replied to Jayhawk_aviator's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
THanks guys. I think I have a bracket that will attach to the sump bolts. Unit mounts to underside of bracket. I know people are wrapping it in firesleeve, but I'm not quite yet sure how best to do that with the sensor mounted to a bracket.? -

Thanks. I've seen in the parts catalog that there appears to be a factory bracket, but it's only a partial image and I haven't been able to find any full pictures of it installed.
