The stuff about being too old to walk is still there, even though the last guy is 75 and famously needed help to get down a ramp (not everyone who's 75 needs help, but if a 75-year-old happens to need help, that's fine!).  Guess that's what "not being political" looks like for some.

I wasn’t going to weigh in on this, but fyi, when someone walks without swinging their arms… that’s a typical earmark of Parkinson’s. That would explain a lot of the other incapacities.

Don’t get me wrong, they have me looking at electric cars! Problem is, endurance or distance. Besides, I still like that soot producing diesel ram in the stable. Save the whales, shoot the seal’s.

It’s the guts they can’t get. Same problem with auto manufacturing. They can build the cars but no chips. I think folks here are ramping up, but who knows when they can produce. I’ll wager the auto sector is hot after a way to be self reliant.

That doesn't really narrow it down. I think that describes most of them.

One last comment I'll make on this: The supply chain tidal wave issue has been building for the past two to three decades. The misguided JIT (just in time) inventory philosophy that was taught during this time told companies not to produce in large quantities, not to maintain inventories. Dealers didn't have to keep stock on hand and maintain inventories. People that bought into this thought that they had developed sliced bread all over again. Logistics companies made fortunes shipping single parts orders with one day or two day delivery. All of this combined has contributed to the high cost of parts that we pay. It appeared to work during times of no global interruptions, but that's not realistic.

Everyone that is so myopic to believe that supply chain issues are a product of the last 13 months spends way too much time being influenced by either end of the biased news spectrum.

One of the businesses I own is a Mercury Marine facility. We see typically 1500 boats per year for repower, service and repair. This supply chain issue probably started with Covid and while it took awhile to build up to where we find ourselves now, we are in a bind now. If I order a new engine today, we won’t see it til mid to late summer. We keep 250,000 to 300,000 dollars in parts inventory  every day of the year. There’s always something else to order, the price inflation is so intense, we pay more to replace the parts than we sold them for. I have instructed the counter to look up each part for the current price and hopefully we can get it restocked before it goes up again. We lost $40,000 last year before I could catch it.

The inflation problems lay squarely on the current green new deal bunch. The first day in office was an attack on the fossil fuel sector that is still ongoing. You may have noticed the current gas price. Oh, my groceries have all but doubled. If you got it, a truck brought it. Diesel went from $2.40 to over $5.00 during the last 13 months. Undeniable fact. Where it goes from here, who knows? Ask the laughing Hyena vp.

I don’t want to be political, I just wish the working stiffs didn’t have to suffer and the folks not on welfare didn’t have to pay these inflated prices to get by. End rant.

As for the autopilot, I hope I live to see it. The first time I heard it was almost approved was Oshkosh 2018. Then again in 19… I’m all in if it gets approved.

Please don't do that on here. Most of us come on Mooneyspace to get away from all of the divisive garbage going on.

Do what? I love all politicians. Especially the old ones that can barely walk. But that doesn’t change the facts. The supply chain is broken. China recently locked down its tech sector. So electric stuff may get even harder to come by. Hopefully they can ramp up and make stuff here in the USA. Maybe lay off watching the view and pay attention.

  5. Not sure if it matters. The electronic components are near impossible to get right now. Try to purchase a gtx 345 transponder for instance. Can’t be done as of a couple weeks ago when my friend was asking garmin for a new one. They had none. He had to pay the new retail asking price for a used one on fleebay.

The moral to the story is simple. Unless and until they fix the supply chain, even if they get approved, it could be some time before the Al’s are in stock.

Noticed this about a different autopilot (in red print):

    My GNC355 is compatible too...

    EFIS/GPS support...

Tryin to find out if Mooneys are going to be supported by their STC...

just stirring up the bees nest a bit ;o)

Almost makes me cry… we would have had this autopilot by now, probably two years ago. We practicality flogged this guy. He called me and said the Mooney group was too much for him. I begged him to move forward, but he bugged out. Wish he’d come back. Trio would fix all this.

I wonder what kind of stake Duncan Aviation has in the process. If they are financially invested maybe that’s more motivation for the process to move forward. Or maybe I’m being naively optimistic.

I dunno, but everyone needs to take it down a notch befor you run these folks off too. Is it late? Yeah… but refrain from talking them down. Like what good will it do.

I might as well derail this thread since it is getting zero results for the autopilot.  A picture of the latest mod to my 140’s panel.

I wonder how many 140’s can file Slash Golf?

Need speed brakes next. Don’t drill anymore holes or the panel gonna be in the floor. Heck of a set of radios for a 140.

next time your on a first date and you want to impress her... show her a picture of a C130 and say, I fly a C140.

  9. How time flies!

    Are we there yet?

Sure would love a look behind the curtain to see how the process works, how the sausage is made.

Are they (ffa) concerned about making GA safer? Probably, but I’m not rightly sure. In Texas, we have a saying...”money talks and bulls*** walks”.

A lot of slow walking and lip service in the last, count em, 3yrs. I can’t figure out who’s responsible for all this “duck butter”.

    @Sandman993,

have you seen a JP5 jet fuel burning Mercury engine before?

    See A64’s link above...

My guys loved the opti... that was one reason I wanted to be a Merc dealer when it was much easier and cheaper to go with another brand. That was a long time ago.
Our service manager is in his early 50’s, his first ever and only job was Mercury. Unfortunately, they retired the opti in the US, transferred their efforts to the four stroke. Over the years, I believe they have a winner... quiet, smooth and high output. All the new technology comes at a price.

like you once said... if he gives you advice, listen carefully and write as fast as you can!

Florabama is a unique institution! To get around the blue law prohibiting alcohol sales on Sunday, they have a service there with a full bar . . . . . I'm not sure of the denomination.

Looked pretty lawless to me Hank... albeit I was there during the safe (g rated) part of day. They say it’s a zoo on a good night. The beaches are like sugar and the water is blue to the beach. Those milk maids!

Always lick your finger and poke it out the little window to check for headwinds.

I recently flew from Victoria Texas to orange beach Alabama in the little j model... 170gs both ways at 2:55 going and 3:00 coming back, she used 31 gallons each way. Good time of year to hunt for favorable winds.

you bravo guys are speed demons! And your burning up all the av gas lol

    >>Yeah...600hp outboard! Bet that caught the competition off guard just a little.<<

It did.. Amazing how Mercury manages to keep a lid on what they are doing until they are ready to ship... Something like Ford and the aluminum F150. They had a pile of them out for testing  with fleet operators that had no idea they were aluminum...

That rotating lower gearcase with AN AUTOMATIC 2 speed transmission is a game changer.. The boat manufacturers are scrambling to design around it..

Old saying around marine engines.. "Once you go Black, you never go back"  :)

Yep... skunk works at Fondulac Wisconsin.
